2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Papsoe (22987) - Frederiksberg, - NOV 21, 2006
(Bottle 34,1 cl) Pours a hazy golden with a creamy, white head. Aroma of yeast and sulphur. Full-bodied with plenty of fruit and malt and then again this not so pleasant sulphurous character. Not really any great example of a Belgian style ale. 120206
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 radiomgb (2078) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 12, 2008
Clear golden in colour with lots of visible carbonation, suspended yeast and a large white coloured head, excellent retention, good lacing. The aroma is of apples, lots of peppery spice, yeast, some citrus and lightly sweet. The flavour is citrusy, sweet, musty, some apples, lots of yeast but a little thin. Thin mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes a bit watery, yeasty and sweet.
Very appley, starting to oxidize and some cardboard flavours are starting to come out. This ones all done.
341ml bottle obtained in a trade with Rastacouere, thanks David.
Opened on February 18, 2008.

Bottle. I believe that this was given to me as a birthday gift back in January by HogTownHarry and/or blankboy, but I just rediscovered it today in the back corner of my "beer cellar" (a.k.a. a couple of cardboard boxes in my storage closet) where it has been sitting half-forgotten since I moved back in March. Pours a very cloudy golden colour with a large white head that reduced fairly quickly, but remained in a smaller form for most of the time I spent drinking it. Aroma is yeasty and tart, with a bit of funkiness. Body is fairly light, and quite refreshing for such a strong beer. Flavour follows pretty closely on the aroma, although it’s a touch sweeter than the nose suggests. Pretty nice stuff - belated thanks, guys!

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2009 Retired beer. Bottle is probably over a year old. Partly cloudy golden yellow body with a decent white head. Artificial butter aroma that may be due to the age of the bottle. Creamy white head. Very yeasty, fruity & buttery. Strong alcohol presence. Oily and buttery body. I’m surprised at how much I like that beer despite its buttery taste. “Délices des Moines” means “Monks Special Treat” and I don’t if it’s because of all the Catholic Church scandals of the past few years but that’s not what I had in mind when I thought of a monk’s special treat.

Cloudy blond color, big head. Sweet and spicy aroma; Quite harsh mouthfeel; similar to a Grand Cru (therefore spicy), with some bitter-citrus notes. Too bitter final. Good aroma, but the taste is not convincing.

An orange beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is spicy with light notes of coriander, as well as fruity notes of oranges, on a slightly acidic back ground. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of oranges, leading to a dry spice end.
