A dark version of the Delirium Tremens. Too bad it’s not an improvement. Sweet, with obvious alcohol presence.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 estoppel (1028) - Buffalo, New York, USA - AUG 31, 2002
Medium tan head receding fast, dark brown body with hints of red, sweet slightly fruity nose with alcohol notes. Strong alcohol finish. Very sweet body, with brown sugar and ... Let’s just say it’s not two-dimensional.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Volgon (2715) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - AUG 12, 2002
33CL bottle: Pours a hazy brown-ruby color with a nice light brown head. Sweet sugary aroma, tastes sweet and of light fruits. The sweetness gets to be a bit much as the glass goes on. Like all the other beers these guys make, I won’t be having this one again.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Vac (2442) - Soon to be back in San Diego, California, USA - AUG 11, 2002
The color is a delightful Deep red Brown, the head is thick with nice lace. the aroma is sweet with hints of banana, orange and other spices. The palate is dry and the flavor is sweet and malty.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 foduck (328) - Denton, Texas, USA - AUG 6, 2002
Reminds me of Chimay a little. Distinctly Belgian aroma and flavor. Sweet and fruity, a little cookie dough. Strong enough to be a sipping beer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 hopscotch (7529) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 1, 2002
This beer rocks.
It’s been a long time since I’ve actually tried this ale. However, I remember liking it a lot. That’s all that I remember... of that entire day. 8.5% ABV will do that to you. If you like other Belgian ales that I have rated highly, you won’t be dissapointed by this beer. ’Nuff said.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 TheBeerGod (4130) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - JUL 22, 2002
UPDATED: NOV 13, 2003 Another strong Belgian beer. Much darker and browner than its brother, Delirium Tremens. Meant as a nightcap/winter warmer/digestif. Strong spice and alcohol taste. Still contains the fruity tastes that DT has. Recommended. Drink too much though and you will see pink elephants!
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 duff (5483) - St, Margarets, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 22, 2002
I think the alcohol shows up way too much in this beer. Not enough flavour or even body for such a high ABV beer. A bit too sweet for me.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Wakie (612) - Centreville, Virginia, USA - JUL 19, 2002
Looks like stout and you expect it to taste like a Guinness but boy are you surprised. Sweet, tasty, and refreshing.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 jaymobrown (1457) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 10, 2002
As soon as I corked the bottle I could smell this one. Strong smell of sweet fruit and alcohol. Hint of apples possibly. Thick and dark appearance. A good dark, strong ale. A sour mash presence, with grapefruit tones. The alcohol and spice make for a good finish. Complex flavors. Enjoyed very much.
