Colour and sight: Dark brown-red. A compact white-yellow, stable and lacing head. Scent: Touches of caramel, mocha and chocolate. Spices such as liquorice and coriander are also present. Flavour: Initially, a very good mouthfeel of alcohol and softness. This is followed by an increasing bitterness, partially from the hop, but also from the roasted malt and chocolate malt. Towards the end a nice balance between bitterness, sour and sweet.

A very nice smell of this dark beer but the taste was nt so good witch taste of alcohol.

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2005 Poured a dark brown body. Aroma of raisin/plum, alcohol, yeast. Flavor was far worse than the aroma for me. Weak.

Bottle. Poured hazy, brown and nearly opaque with orange highlights and a moderate beige head. Aroma is nice, dominated by yeast, fruit, molasses and spice - clove, allspice and bit of nutmeg - with hints of dust and earth. Flavor is sweet and bready initially, with sour fruits, spice, vinegar, alcohol and a mildly puckering astringent aftertaste. Medium body and gentle carbonation.

From the 33cl bottle. Pours an opaque brown with a huge fluffy tan head. Lots of fine lacing. Smells of fruit and caramel. Spiced apples. Nutty. Notes of sherry. Vinuous nose. Taste is lightly sour up front, with a wonderful roasted/burnt malt flavor rising to the surface. Hints of sherry and light flavors of bitter chocolate. Spicy, like pepper and nutmeg, maybe hints of ginger. all these flavors intertwine nicely. Mouth is rich and chewy. Mmmmm...beer. This is really nice. Tried both this and the Delirium Tremens tonight but this one takes the cake. Gotta get some more.

In the bottle. Pours dark garnet color with an ecru-colored head. The head is simply a beast. No glass can contain it. Raisin-like aroma, but overall, nothing complex or remarkable. Flavor is fruit-like in its simple tartness. Disappointingly not as good as DT.

A dark ruby beer that pours well, with a tight, short-lived tan head. Hints of spice on the nose. Initial sweetness with spicy clove and chocolate flavours, with caramel hints. A predominantly coffee aftertaste, with a rich, warming sensation.

Yellow pour with no head. predominately yeast in the nose and the taste. Not a very interesting beer.

Surprisingly dry compared to other brands of this style. Definately worth checking out.

UPDATED: JUN 24, 2006 I am not a fan this brewer and have been consistently disappointed in their products. Sampled on draft at the Sharp Edge in Pittsburgh this beer poured a dark brown color with a trace of a tan head. The aroma is sweet and tangy malt. The flavor is sweet and has molasses, chocolate and caramel undertones. There is the usual rose water flavor that you find in the Delirium beers. One of their better efforts but still not something I would seek out.

Take a bottle of chimay red and add some vodka and citrus acid. Even after these alterations, you still get a great beer. And just like Chimay, its not worth the green.
