COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Colour and sight: Dark brown-red. A compact white-yellow, stable and lacing head. Scent: Touches of caramel, mocha and chocolate. Spices such as liquorice and coriander are also present. Flavour: Initially, a very good mouthfeel of alcohol and softness. This is followed by an increasing bitterness, partially from the hop, but also from the roasted malt and chocolate malt. Towards the end a nice balance between bitterness, sour and sweet.

Beer tasting sampler at <a href=http://ratebeer.com/Place/illinois/orland-par Orland Park. Deep brown color is a wakeup call, after finally resigning myself to so many light Belgian strongs. Nose is very sweet, but not in that candi sugary way, more like fructose. I catch a lot of raisin and plum threading around a nice Belgian malt profile… and I must be learning something if I can claim to discern Belgian malts. Nice.

Bottle. Good dark brown color with asmall head that faded quite quickly. The aroma was somewhat sweet and fruity with a mild hop presence, malt and a hint of alcohol to go with the spicy notes. Malty sweet taste with flavors of fruit and spice and hints of hops and alcohol. The finish is slightly bitter sweet with a bit of spice and malt. Not bad but then not great, but still worth a try.

Bottle. Dark brown color with particule and a big nice beige head. malt, caramel, anis and alcohol aroma. Taste of malt, fruits, brown sugar and alcohol finish. Nice beer. Bière de couleur brun foncé avec des sédiments et un très bon collet brun qui perdure. Odeur de malt, caramel, anis et alcool. Au goût, elle est malté et fruités, avec des notes de sucres bruns et alccol est bien présente en finale. Bonne bière

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2011 Bottled, A very dark brown coloured beer with a short-lived tan coloured head. The aroma is sweet and malty. There are some berry fruits and a little fireside. The taste is heavily carbonated and is dry at the same time. There are smoky malty tastes but is really a bit boring when alls said and done. Score 3.1

Pours a very dark, deep red with a lively tan head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is very assertive, loaded with dark fruits. Flavor is phenomenal, with an immediate smoke and roasted coffee flavors that is mellowed by dark fruit undertones – cherry and plum – and even a little citrus. Might sound odd, but even a little beef jerky, but in a good way! The fruit flavors become more prevalent towards the finish, which has a gentle spicy bite to it. Finish leaves a roasted smoke on the palate. Palate is fairly thin with a lively carbonation. Overall I think this is an excellent brew that is very, very drinkable.

750 ml bottle, corked and caged. Deep ruddy brown colour with a thin brown head. Huge sweet special B aroma leaps out of the bottle and the glass, plums/prunes, toffee, some light minty notes. A bit of rye bread and chocolate. Flavour doesn’t really live up to the delicious aroma. Very alcoholic, yeasty and bready. Quite dry considering all the sweet aromas. Body is a bit thin and watery and the flavour isn’t what it should be. As it warms it gets really boozy.

Pours an unimpressive opaque brown with a frothy, finely-bubbled tan head. A pleasantly fruity, raisin-y aroma jumps out as soon as this brew leaves the bottle. I failed to catch the sediment as it left the bottle-- too eager to try this, I guess, so my glass may be more opaque than usual. The taste is sweet, malty, some caramel, with a medium body. Tastes much like an abbey ale. Doesn’t quite hide the powerfully high alcohol content beneath, though, and as I drink more I can feel it warming my stomach like a spirit. Highly carbonated. Not bad, but a little too powerful for me to drink casually, in my humble opinion.

Bottled. Drak brown pour, ruby under light, no real head. Sweet, sugary, slightly alcoholic aroma. Taste is sweet, dark roasts and toffee. Too sweet, too carbonated, too thin. Why bother?

On draft at Flat Rock Saloon. Pours dark chestnut with white head that dissipated quickly. Nose of caramel and very sweet. Roasted, malty, bitterness with a touch of banana ester in the aftertaste. Alcohol well hidden for 9%.

On tap at Russels, Bloomsburg PA. Poured a translucent dark brown with a small creamy off-white head. Malty nose with hints of peat, smaok, toffee, light yeast, and lots of dark fruits. Very similar in aroma to a Scotch Ale. Flavor is sweet maltiness with lots of fruitiness. Notes of dark cherries, some yeast, and light alcohol in the finish especially. Full bodied with very fine carbonation, fairly sticky and cloying in texture. A pretty decent beer, a little lacking in complexity, but overall drinkable.
