Colour and sight: Dark brown-red. A compact white-yellow, stable and lacing head. Scent: Touches of caramel, mocha and chocolate. Spices such as liquorice and coriander are also present. Flavour: Initially, a very good mouthfeel of alcohol and softness. This is followed by an increasing bitterness, partially from the hop, but also from the roasted malt and chocolate malt. Towards the end a nice balance between bitterness, sour and sweet.

UPDATED: FEB 28, 2009 Rerate. Poured from bottle. Malt, fig and spice in the aroma. Dark cherry with persistent tan head. Taste of malt, dried fruit, brown sugar, banana. Alcohol in the nose as you drink, also in afterraste, adds nicely to the experience. All things blend nicely toward the end. This beer was much better the 2nd time around.

Pours like a cola, and looks like one, the head is bubbly and the beer is quite carbonated. Smells of sweet malts. Burnt marshmallow, caramel smell. What a flavor, sour/bitter, smokey, syrupy. Slight thick espresso flavor. Nice.

Bottle conditioned, 330ml. Very odd beer, black with a quickly diminishing head. Bunt flavours, some sweetness, some malt, bitter aftertaste and intense sourness on the roof of the mouth and on the back of the tongue.

Pours a very dark, ruby red with an uber head. Go grab some dinner while you wait for it to drop to sane levels. The aroma is a bit interesting. Fruit (banana?) and a pinch of malt perhaps. The taste is quite good with banana, bread, yeast, and is quite sweet. The mouthfeel was incredible. I’ve read that others may have gotten very thin pours, but mine felt more like heavy cream! I do think it might have been damaged by the tin wrap of the bottle; some of the beer hit it on the way out. I’d like to get a 750ml bottle to store for a few months and give her another go. Still, a very nice beer I will be revisiting in the future.

Dark mahogany color. Unbelievably fizzy white head. Only aromas detected where of light crystal malt and alcohol, and they where faint, to say the least. Super abrasive carbonation. I’ve had smoother malt liquor. Slight flavors of malt under the vicious assalt of carbonation and alcohol heat. Total disappointment.

UPDATED: JUL 28, 2006 (Bottled) Dark reddish brown color with a large, tanned, pillowy head. Toffee-rye-puddingy-malty aroma with grainy alcohol and raisins. Toffee-malty flavor with grainy alcohol hints, dark toffee and yeast. Medium to full-bodied, moderately alcoholic palate with soft carbonation. An alcoholic, but warming and quite full-bodied, toffee-malty brew. Definitely one of the better Huyghe brews. (Bottled, rated Jun 9, 2004, was 7-4-6-3-12=3.2) Deep, dark brown-red color with a large, tanned and big-bubbled head. Sweet and pleasant, rye-pudding aroma. Malty, sweet, slightly red-wineous and acidic, yeasty flavor. Medium-bodied, oily, somewhat carbonated palate. Surprisingly thin body.

Delirium...tastes just like it smells...Delicious! First impression was not good. Lots of head that never dissipates. Good thing I waited for the delicious treat that I received. Strong coffee like body with a strong aroma. Great flavor with little to none, aftertaste. Appearance was dark with lots of bubbles.

Well, the bottle is cool as all hell. I’ll certainly give it that... a nice painted bottle. Other than that, it’s a sweet, but not simple Belgian. A bit too sweet for my liking.

Strong raisin and plum aroma. Ruby, beige head, good lace. Light sweet, light sour, bitter, plum, sugar. Thinner than expected, little burn, little sticky. Technically ok but not my kind of beer.
