[20081017] YK23 (253), Haifa, Israel Jan 9, 2009 From tap: fruity, yeasty, some sour notes, some caramel sweetness, some roasted notes, some nutty notes, medium-light bodied, nice enough. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jan 7, 2009 Pretty tasty beer as it warms, this crimson brown hue creates a small velvet head that doesn’t stick around too long. Aroma is of spice, dark fruit, and caramel malt. Flavor shows brown sugar, toffee, chocolate, and yeast. Nice medium mouthfeel...highly drinkable for 9%!!! marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Jan 5, 2009 Dark brown with brown fizzy head. Aroma of dried fruits and dark malt. Sharp initial flavor, fruity and sour cider like. Strong sharp carbonation on the palate. Roasted flavors come out in the duration which is somewhat dry. Fairly light density. A crisp belgian strong ale. kopher (295), New York, USA Jan 3, 2009 pours a cloudy reddish brown, some light brown fizzy head, very little lacing (at least on this westmalle goblet)
aroma is lots of caramel, some apple, ripe fruit, and brown sugar, maybe a hint of metal
sweet flavor, but not cloying, not as fruity as you would expect
nice medium-bodied texture but little to no finish
JamesD (192), Centreville, Virginia, USA Dec 31, 2008 Bottle whilst watching Profondo Rosso. I liked this beer a lot. It has a great aroma and flavor of malt, with strong apple cider undertones, and a hint of brown sugar. I would almost say it’s a dessert beer, which I shall certainly buy more of. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 31, 2008 Pours a dark brown with large froathy offwhite head. Aroma is toasted caramel and figs. Flavor sweet and dark cherries, bit too over the top sweetness, but decent. Medium mouthfeel. dkachur (2318), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Dec 30, 2008 11.2 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA.
