Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 24, 2009 (Bottle, Bishop’s Arms, Vasagatan, Stockholm, 23 Oct 2009) Very dark ruby colour with creamy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of dark fruit, caramel, wild berries and spicy hops. Malty taste with dark fruit, dark bread, caramel and spicy hops in the finish. Slightly roasted with a touch of burnt sugar. Above medium body, not overly sweet. Well balanced and tasty with alcohol fairly well concealed. Fratto (670), Arlington, Texas, USA Oct 23, 2009 Bottle from Pflug. Very dark red pour. Lots of fruit aromas. Plum, dates, raisins, and a little spice. A little alcohol graces the slightly sour fruit taste. Finish is just a little tart. mike1977ok (633), Netherlands Oct 23, 2009 Dark brown colour with thick head. Sweet aroma. Heavy, syrupy texture with intense jam-like sweetness. Very rich and intense.
mbuisman79 (134), Amsterdam, Netherlands Oct 23, 2009 Yummy... quite a sweet beer, I taste peaches and the bitter part of straw- and raspberries. Alcohol is warming and it’s feels like a 9%.
Maybe even better than the Tremens. Lyncham (48), Ohio, USA Oct 21, 2009 An interesting logo does not make a good beer in Belgium. I had this one on draft. The smell is fruity, and sweet. The hops give it a mildl bitterness. Over all the complexity of the flavors do not stand up to many other Belgiun Strongs. SkateSRT8 (4), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA does not count Oct 16, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown amber color with a medium sized beige tan white head. Immediate taste of deep dark fruits with a lasting aroma of the complexities of the fruits. Enjoyed the pleasant aftertaste of the strong ale flavor. Parket (219), Bruges, Belgium Oct 16, 2009 bottle, dark brown colour with beige head. Smell: very fruity. Taste: sweet, alcohol, fruity, candy sugar, raisins. Bitter in the aftertaste. hellbilly (1502), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Oct 12, 2009 on tap 9/10/09 at papago.
hazy dark woody brown color (almost as dark as the ve09 before it) with a sizable tan head on top.
it smells sweet and gentle... the way flowers do... along with molasses, raisins and other dried fruits.
the flavor is the same... gentle, though rich and complex. floral notes meet up with molasses, spices, black raisins in raisin bread which has been slightly burnt, brown sugar and some fruity sourness. it’s a bit sweet but it finishes roasty, dry and mildly bittered. a hint of alcohol comes in as it nears room temperature.
subtle carbonation makes the palate feel a bit sticky (when warmed). the body is surprisingly thinnish. but, it is not such a bad feature as it remains much easier to put away7/4/87/4/16/3.8
