Colour and sight: Dark brown-red. A compact white-yellow, stable and lacing head. Scent: Touches of caramel, mocha and chocolate. Spices such as liquorice and coriander are also present. Flavour: Initially, a very good mouthfeel of alcohol and softness. This is followed by an increasing bitterness, partially from the hop, but also from the roasted malt and chocolate malt. Towards the end a nice balance between bitterness, sour and sweet.

I thought though, despite my rating, that this has a lot of carbonation that makes it a different experience. Sure the fizz carries the taste, which matches the aroma. Also despite knowing this was a dark ale, it poured dark :-), colour me stupid. Like they way they point the bottles and present this in purple foil. Like the way that this has a full aroma and a taste to match. After a few Belgium "style" beers itís nice to get back to the benchmark

33cl Bottle taken in The Red Rose, Brugge on 1st Feb 2014. Time for bed after a day of drinking and this as my nightcap, pink elephants and sweet dreams await me: some heavy snoring too, claims the wife. The actual beer isnít as wonderful as all the hype would have you believe. Itís good, but not that good. It does pour an interesting dark brown with a red hue in strong light (something The Red Rose is lacking in), the head a beige blanket of foam. Interesting aromas and taste, sweet malty molasses rule the roost with all the flavours dominated by the strength and depth of them. They have hoofed in some spices to make it different from other brews in this style and itís rich enough body wise too: there just seems to be something unbalanced and wrong somewhere. Maybe the alcohol level is too high for me or it lacks a subtle bitterness most in this type of brew usually have

330ml bottle bought at Belgian Beer Internatioal in Tsuen Wan.

Translucent blackish brown colour; Two finger head and creamy beige foam which lasted for 3 minutes; Excellent lacing and fizzy carbonation; Fragrant aroma of malt, with banana, vanilla, caramel, toffee, light pineapple, sugar, faint floral, Bel yeast and light grass; Mid to light sweet taste of malt, with initial metallic, light alcohol, milk chocolate, cherry, molasses, light cream, strong Bel yeast, light lime and very light grass; Close to full body. Thick and creamy palate; Mouth feel is a nice Belgian Dark with elements from English Strong Ale. Good fat maltyness, rich and creamy, lasting yet comfy carbo, strong Bel yeast, plus good cherry, milk chocolate and toffee. Sweetness is light, and 8.5% booze is very well hidden. Cool!... Hoppiness is light grass nose, light lime and faint grassy taste. Not much bitterness, low-sweet carbo malty finish; Slightly dry after taste, easy and savoury to mouth.

Comments: With Delirium Tremens being a solid Tripel, this Nocturnum has gone one step further: a very rich and creamy Belgian Dark, with its already nice Belgian aroma and taste plus extra dimensions of chocolate, toffee and cherry reminiscent of strong English Ales. Like DT, if itís a little bit sweeter itíll be perfect, but I love it just the same!

0,33L bottle, BB 10.2016. Pours dark red amber with light tan head. The head stays. Aroma is sweet, yeast, tart, dark fruits. Taste: a lot of raisins, sweet, dark fruits, spices, watery. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall: I love raisins, so I like this one; otherwise itís not very complex or interesting.

Pours a dark copper color with a khaki colored head that does not fade away and laced the glass well. Smells of malty sweetness as well as some sipces and dark fruits. Taste is fairly sweet at the start (caramel/chocolate) then moves into fruity notes and some bitterness near the end with slight alcohol warming. Very nice beer

This rating based on 33 cl, have also had 750 ml. Short, frothy head. Spicy but creamy/chocolatey aroma. Chocolate and caramel taste with a bitter, satisfying finish.

12oz Bottle from Total Wine Chesapeake VA for $3.50 Appearance – Murky brown colour with a smaller than average size fizzy beige coloured head. It’s hard to make out the carbonation and there is some faint lacing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes before it was gone. Smell – Malts, grapes/raisins, caramel Taste & Mouth - There is a below average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel, and some banana. There is also some grapes/raisins and a yeasty spiciness. Overall – Another flavourful and very drinkable beer from this brewer. There is some great fresh grape juice flavour going on and the booze is very hidden. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Apesar da cor forte e escura, a cerveja não parece tão densa e seu gosto fica abaixo das que mais gosto.
