AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 7, 2007 Poured from bottle into my St.Berndardus chalice.
First off, wow what a head! I poured this thing gently and was starting to worry that it was going to overflow the side of the glass. Needless to say, I let it sit for a couple of minutes to recede.
Smell is some fruit, yeast and alcohol.
Taste is a slightly bubbly cherry and raisin with alcohol on the back end. It tastes really light and velvety smooth. I get a lot of dark fruit and raisin in the aftertaste in my mouth.
This is a highly sessionable beer. One I wouldn’t mind sipping all night long. You’ll constantly find a subtle flavor showing up throughout this beer as it warms.
This beer will definitely be revisited. Very happy with the purchase and will definitely purchase again.
Highly recommend. jeremytoni (1065), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Apr 7, 2007 From pours dark brown with lots of head. Great aroma alot of particulate at the bottom of the glass. Nice flavor, with a lingering after taste. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Mar 31, 2007 Bottle. Poured a reddish brown with a tan head that lasts and leave good lacing. HUGE floaters in the glass. The aroma was of fruit and floral that starts sweet but turns a little sour. Light alcohol and malts also in the aroma. The flavor is mainly fruity with apple, raisin, and prunes standing out. Light chocolate background also. Medium body. Definitely not my favorite Belgium but it’s decent. theviolet (167), New York, New York, USA Mar 29, 2007 I didn’t enjoy it as much as the tremens. Almost doo heavy feeling. Very dark amber color, with a decent head. I could taste a very strong alcohol presence. Taste was also quite malty. benclarkiii (73), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Mar 28, 2007 Poured dark amber with a nice head that lingered. Good carbonation. I thought the alcohol was slightly strong and not well balanced by the other flavors. Very good beer. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Mar 24, 2007 330 ml bottle (notched at 1 of 5, and 5 of 8; maybe bottled Jan 05?). Dark brown with red tinges. Huge light-brown sugar, lasting head with excellent lace. Lots of ?yeast? chunks floating around. Aroma is hopped Bacardi and Coke with a caramel sour apple on the side. Taste is dry, some candi sugar at the start and toffee in the aftertaste, with some slight acidic and sour notes in the middle and afterwards. Very light mouthfeel. Good Belgian, but with every other taste something seems missing. Note: Bottle says 8.5% ABV instead of the 9% indicated. SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy Mar 18, 2007 Bottle: Poured a dark black/brown with a light brown head. The aroma was floral and nuts. The taste was awesome sweet tangy nuts and caramel malt flavor. Cybercat (775), Georgia, USA Mar 17, 2007 Beautiful rich brown color with a thick and persistent head. Aroma is distinctive and has a hint of alcohol in it. This beer has a strong flavor and quite a nip to it, but it is still smooth and pleasant on the tongue, with a smoky undertone. This is a beer to be sipped, not guzzled.
