Strong, spicy, and sweet all at the same time, but also quite smooth. Overall quite satisfying.

A dark Belgian that will please an advanced beer drinker or strong ale home brewer. This dark beer pours a slight off-white head that diminishes to a foamy film that floats on the beer. Nose is dark and fruity. Taste is burnt, raisins, and malty. Caramel. This is quite the drink!
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 teebeer (24) - Minnesota, USA - JUL 2, 2007
Pours a brown/red murky color with huge head. Aroma is malts and alcohol. Interesting taste. I taste alcohol, tobbacco and apricots- or some fruit along that line. Strong, but pleasant alcohol flavor. Kind of like eating, smoking, and drinking all at once. A very drinkable ale; not my favorite, but definatly worth trying.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bpowers (24) - USA - MAR 23, 2008
750 ml bottle. A Pours a clear mahogany with many particles visibly suspended in the liquid. Nice 2 finger tan/white head. Aroma of doughy/tart yeastiness, roasted malts and a touch of alcohol. Taste is pretty one dimensional, almost all roasted malts. Not the deep roast but more toasty or lightly roasted. Its not a bad taste but pretty simple. The doughy yeasty profile is there too but somewhat subdued. Alcohol present in the finish as well as a little bit of that metallic taste. Medium bodied, a little thinner than I expected with a decent dose of carbonation to keep things interesting. Its not bad but really doesn’t live up the to Noel or the Tremmens both of which I really like. Good beer but nothing special, scores of better Belgian Strong Ales out there and even better ones from Delirium. A little disappointed by this one.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 TheKeg (23) - Louisiana, USA - OCT 20, 2008
Lots of head on this beer. As soon as I popped the top, the off white head was at the top and slowly building out of the bottle. It had a light fruity taste and aroma. The alcohol content was very noticeable in the taste. It has a sweeter taste than the Tremens.

Very smooth and dark in color. Fruity undertone with creamy finish. Poured dark with a mid size head. Great all around brew!

Great beer. Nearly opaque garnet/choclate color with a nice head and excellent clarity. Mouth feel/carbonation was a bit prickly to start off with.
I could immediatly smell the complexity of the malts; not overpowering, but intricate. The raisny flavor of the Belgian special malt was clearly identifiable.
But the real fun in this beer came as it sat in my glass for half an hour. The flavor gradually assumed toffy notes. I always enjoy a beer or wine that exhibits a range of flavors as you take your time going through the glass.
I’ll buy this beer again. And my two year old daughter loves the pink elephant on the bottle.

750ml cork and cage. Pours russet in color with a tan head. Aromas of chocolate cherries and licorice. Medium full in texture with a sweetish blend of coffee, chocolate, cherry and dried fruits. There is a spice in there that reminds me of coriander and licorice. Well done strong dark.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Apache (22) - Georgia, USA - APR 11, 2008
Very smooth beer, pour cloudy with a good head. No strong alcohol taste, which is a plus.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 redeyeloon (21) - Colorado, USA - SEP 21, 2009
Magnum --> goblet. First thoughts, glad to see Huyge has moved to newcork over real cork. Pours thick tan head with large bubbles - can hear them pop. Very dark brown with amber tint.
Aroma is dried apricots and hint of cinnamon.
Mouthfeel is velvety and milky. Can be a bit crisp if you don’t let it breathe for a few minutes.
Tastes like raisin pudding and brown sugar in front w/ dark chocolate finish.
This is one of my favorite Belgians.
