Brown body has burgandy edges and tiny, dense particles. Nutty, molasses malt; grassy, perfume hops; cobweb yeast; bubble gum, red grapes, plum, pear, white wine, licorice, alcohol and solvent. Sounds pretty good on paper (minus the solvent part) but it really doesn't come together well at all. It's not that the flavors clash or anything; it's just that the aroma kind of burns my nose. Moderately sweet flavor; moderately sweet, lightly bitter, heavily acidic finish. The taste really lacks many of the flavors I was expecting to find. Medium-heavy body, somewhat creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. The bottom line is: checking the aroma of a beer should not cause pain. OlJuntan64 (1267), Perth, Australia

Unlike the Tremens, the aroma was quite faint, some unripened grapes, alka-seltzer, caramel and coffee. Thin bodied with a sour almost gueuzey start, a sweeter spicier middle and faint sour dry finish. It’s definitely different to, but I prefer the tremens. crazyvin (1255), New York, USA

Aroma was yeasty and sweet, very mild too. Inital flavor was sweet with mild bread notes and finished with a very mild hop dryness WISEGUY572 (1252), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 19, 2005 Had at Markt in New York with equally nondescript mussels and frites. Average looking strong Belgian brown. Nose is in some sense like barleywine — bubble gum sweet with strange overtones. Taste is sweet, cloying, hot with alcohol. Fine with oversalted fries, but nothing i would order again. I found the alcohol and the phenols overwhelmed any anticipated spice. Ober (1249), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 12, 2008 A clear brown colored beer, with a thick beige head. The aroma of dark sweet fruits, a little coffee candy and caramel malt. The taste of sweet alcohol fruits, liquorice root. It is spicey, some pepper. The aftertaste is a little bitter with sweets. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA

molasses. Tastes sweet with flavors
of raisins, malt and molasses. Has some
hop bitterness at the end to counter the
sweetness. zebracakes (1219), Washington DC, USA

that produce a lovely fruity spicey aroma. This tasted kind of off. Very carbonated and copper tasting.
