Colour and sight: Dark brown-red. A compact white-yellow, stable and lacing head. Scent: Touches of caramel, mocha and chocolate. Spices such as liquorice and coriander are also present. Flavour: Initially, a very good mouthfeel of alcohol and softness. This is followed by an increasing bitterness, partially from the hop, but also from the roasted malt and chocolate malt. Towards the end a nice balance between bitterness, sour and sweet.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 18E). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L13_14_184. AROMA: complex malty aromas with caramel and bready notes, mixed with faint esters and a background floral aroma. spicy alcohols present. no discernible noble hop aromas. APPEARANCE: deep amber color and translucid. medium ivory head with below average retention. some lacing. TASTE: mild flavours of toast and dried grapes. the alcohols are present with an almost solventy character, with spicy notes. low bitterness with a medium-dry finish. PALATE: medium-light body with average carbonation. OVERALL: a dark belgian strong ale that showed promise on the aromas but didnt deliver on the flavours. needs more complexity.

Poured from a bomber into a Delirium tremens snifter a darkest amber red/brown color with a huge bubbly head. Aroma is distinctly Belgium. Dark fruit with Belgium candied sugar. Coriander but not over the top. Bready malts. 8.5% so booze isn’t overly done which makes this dark ale so good. The balance to the palate is spot on. A top notch brew.

Bottle from strait and narrow, Lincoln. Dark brown with foamy tan head. Aroma is raisins and prunes, alcohol and deep dark malts. Taste is treacle sweetness and spicy subtle bitterness. Prickly carbonation and surprisingly thin body.

Bottle poured into pint glass. Aroma was sort of fruity, looked beautiful with an amazing thick frothy foam head. I didn’t care for the fruity after taste.

Bottle ; I thought i’d boosted and rated this shit for sure - just never entered review b4 , nice surprise -a stupid new tick !
Poured into a Chimay goblet ; the God damn nose on this is ...treacle , raw booze , prunes ,figs , wet paint , spices ,apple -very yeasty . a very vibrant nose . Its a good looking brunette, basically .
probably shouldn’t drink this on an empty stomach but wat-ever ....a nice sipper . accents of a text-book belgian beer ...i think there is candy sugar added ? spicy notes ...with a complex mix of rich toffee malts -giving prune and fig as suggested in the nose - some creamy dryness ...bitter roast notes too. earthy hops ..licorice , floral orange peth , dark chocolate ; every sip of this beer there is something else poping out of the glass ...its almost incoherent but some would call that complexity ? good fun .good boost .

Bottle. Interesting aroma. Interesting beer. Tastes nicely of raisin and fruit, but that flavor evaporates quickly and is replaced by bitter astringency. But still a good beer.
