malty aroma with mainly fruit notes. which was mainly banana with a slight hint of alcohol. flavour was mostly malts bread-fruit-alcohol. A nice warm feel to it. Poured a brown color with a small off-white head which faded down to a barley nothing. good.

Big bottle at N 3rd. Slightly effervescent hazy boozy and fruity brown ale. No head; ;no lace; but nevertheless an extra appearance point for the label. Aroma and flavors of pears, grapes, and apples; crisp, dry, and fruity. I just prefer fizzier beers with more head and lace.

2004 vintage, 750ml bottle. Huge, sweet, fruity, spicy aroma, plenty of brown sugar and toasty malt with lighter notes of cinnamon, allspice, apple, berry, raisin, doughy yeast and wafts of peppery alcohol. Deep garnet in color, some hazy particles drifting about with a lasting, creamy, ivory head and patchwork lacing. Flavor profile is substantially malty and sweet, plenty of brown sugar throughout. Finish is long and lightly acidic with a burst of yeast esters and spice. Mouthfeel is lightly syrupy and thick, some creamy effervescence, body is undoubtedly quite full. Nice. Better than the Tremens or Nocturnum, and for some reason just really made for a pleasant experience tonight. Satisfying, as it were.

Bottle Vintage 2002
For some reason this beer did not come into Florida last Winter, but I managed to find and then hold onto a bottle of the previous years release.

D-Noel pours a dark mahogany colored body with a thick dollop of light tan head. The aroma and flavor are bursting with robust notes of caramel and toffee, then a deranged orchard of , apricot, plums, dates, apples and pears. I wonder if anybody has a garden with all 5 of these fruits in them? There is a large presence of sweet, toasty and robust malt, as well as a nice toasted bready-ness that sits aside a thick overflowing scoop of toasty molasses. Also finding a big nutty, lightly smoky, a bit yeasty and a slight spiced-cider like note and dryness in the finish. This is a rather enjoyable and surprisingly complex brew.
Ive had this years 2004 release, and I feel that the extra time in the cellar really helped facilitate the roundness and complexities in this beer. The time really pulls forth an almost black peppery and leathery flavor, which I enjoy. This Holliday Ale has been far more pleasing than I had anticipated!

Draft @ Prespa in Buffalo. Rudolf and I showed our great math skills spending $6 each for two glass of the beer we had put back on the shelf at Premier because it was $8.99 a bottle. LOL. Served far too cold, had to wait for it to warm up. Ruby amber body, with a small white head. Touch of solventy alcohol in the aroma. Sweet malt, but not much coming through in the aroma. Sweet malty flavour with some sugary Belgian character. Very fruity at times. Medium to full bodied. (3+)

On tap @ prespa. Rich. Winter spices, strongly bitter. Orange, corriander, caramel. Sweet/spicy candilike nose. Sweetens as it warms - candy comes out in the nose w. some rich maltiness. Spicing is better balanced as it warms.

A definate holiday party favorite. With the 10% alcohol, this beer really packs a whallop. Pours a pale red color with a pink frothy head that dissapates quickly, definately not the most apopetizing start. However, the aroma is of dark plums and cherries, giving the impression that this beer will have a fruity taste with a weak texture. Not so, however. The flavor is mildly fruity and has a palate that is more winelike than anything. Very nice for the season.

PorterPounder (5607) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - DEC 5, 2004
750 ml bottle - Market Sq. Liquors in Tallahassee, Fl. Pours a medium burnt copper color with a silky smooth khaki head, lots of carbonation. Aroma has some clean spicy notes with a sweet, pruney undertone. Flavor has some delicate date notes with raisins, candied sugar and perhaps some cherries. Blended together well. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy and the alcohol at 10% ais barely noticeable.
