nose is belgian brown ale w/ tart cherry hint
med/full body and faintly fizzy and a little syrupy
i really like this. alcohol is present but not too big. good belgian brown characteristics (malty, wet bread) with decent belgian fruit tartness/sweetness
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Barrelbelly (317) - BELGIUM - MAR 6, 2011
Dark yellow color. Lightly sour aroma and taste with some grapefruit flavours.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 crossovert (2545) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 21, 2011
I believe this is the 2008 vintage, with a skiing elephant and red foil.
Pours into my goblet with a nice reddish brown and plenty o’ floaties. The head is decently active a bit darker than off-white and leaves some nice lacing.
The smell is a bit boozy with tons of candi sugar, dark fruits, some sourness ala geuze or saison, a hint of clovey caramel/chocolate, and heaps of belgian yeast.
The taste follows with the sourness. There is also caramel, fruits, and candi sugar. It is sweet but not cloying.
Overall a unique Christmas brew but not my favorite, still damn good though.

4.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Northbay_Stout (3) - California, USA - FEB 18, 2011 does not count
On draft, this was all apples and toffee with the expected malt and smooth texture I’ve come to expect from this brewery. The crisp entry, and smooth finish was enamoring, but the subtle but festive apple and very slight cinnamon notes were so evocative of christmas cider, and the dark English toffee notes so very holiday-ish, I couldn’t help but love this beer. Tremens in still my faovrite, but this was definitely a triumph.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2011 Bottle 33 cl bought @ bir&fud bottega, Rome. Pours clear intense orange/red ruby with a foam that vanish quickly. EXTREMELY spiced aroma, in which you could recognize molasses, pear, carrots, citrus, a hint of biscuit. Taste of orange peel, but suddenly alcohol (very strong I think) and spices override everything in your mouth and turn flavor to a sort of Grand Marnier with figs and molasses added. Bitter and disturbing finish. Not exactly the best Xmas beer I’ve evere had.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 wlajwl (1476) - Iowa, USA - FEB 10, 2011
Definitely has an alcohol fire to it but it doesn’t overpower the ale itself, which is nice and thick and a great strong ale.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dixonian (938) - Dallas, Texas, USA - FEB 10, 2011
750ml bottle.
Deep amber color with a non existent head. Sugary fruit aromas, tastes like caramel and spicy yeast. A good winter beer but my least favorite of their offerings.
