adster (262) - HUNGARY - JUN 22, 2014

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/6/2013. Pours light hazy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, apricot, banana, caramel, brown sugar, toast, bread, clove, herbal, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, apricot, banana, caramel, toast, brown sugar, bread, clove, herbal, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, apricot, banana, caramel, brown sugar, toast, bread, clove, herbal, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome Belgian strong dark ale. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle @ Greg’s dump. Pours a hazy orangish brown appearance with a thin tan head. Pears, apricots, caramel, candy sugar, and toffee in the nose. A little strong but heavy on the spicy, fruity, Belgian yeast. Some caramel and toffee and a touch of smoke. A little banana. Pretty fun.

The bottle I’d remarkably fancy, and the aroma is utterly amazing. Spicy and smooth with spice and a bit of booze. One of the best beers I’ve ever had.

This will warm you up in the morning. Especially with the cute little pink elephant. Aroma is of caramel, mollases, and different Christmasy spices. Tastes of fruit cake, anise, nutmeg, and caramel. Quite a mouth feel to her, somewhat syrupy and sticky. Coats the tongue so, you remember what you are drinking.

Bomber from the Bar. Appearance: light pinkish color, slight cloudy, white head, good lace. Aroma: earthy leaves yeast, anise, slight leather, light fruit, sweet malt. Palate: light body, lively carbonation, dry finish. Taste: sweet yeasty and malty with light tartness, to an anise sweetness that lasts for a bit. Overall, good balance, but just not the biggest fan of the anise in this beer. Much bigger fan of Nocturnum.

Beersiveknown (2889) - NORTHERN IRELAND - MAY 6, 2014
bottle from houhai bottle store, beijing
Dark brown, fluffy grey tinged head, sweet sticky, cake like, molasses, warming booze, fruity. Perhaps a little heavy for me and doesn’t stack up to the trappist greats but a good wee winter warmer.

Beese (1668) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 29, 2014
Draught at Draft House, Northcote Rd, Battersea on 29 March 2013. Poured a bright red, with a large, dense, off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of ripe fruit, Belgian yeast esters and spicy notes. Full mouth feel. Initial flavours of strong malt, candy sugar and dried fruit. Finish was Xmas cake, peppery hop and and sharp fruit.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Colour is reddish brown with a decent beige head. Aroma of fruit, caramel, and a touch of spice. Taste is dark fruit, caramel, and spice. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a pink elephant.
