Subtle aroma of spice and malt. Surprisingly bland and nondescript when compared to the other offerings from Huyghe. One expects a spice bomb, but perhaps this warrants another tasting. Tried at the Bruges bierfest in 2012 with Jess and Dave.

Explosive aroma of spices balanced by fruits notes and polished by scent of flowers. Taste of oranges, caramel, malt. Slightly sour. Long lasting fruit-n-spicy aftertaste

330ml bottle from Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours deep rosy red with medium white head. Spicy, fruity aroma. Taste is fruity, malty and lightly spicy. One of the better Christmas beers.

15.12.2014. Ruby brown, big head in Rochefort glass. Aroma has sweet malts, spices, raisin, molasses. Sharp carbonation. Sweet raisinous malts, quite full, some bitterness, plums. Tasty, nice balance although a bit on the sweet side.

Decent beer, I remember it being a lot better than this however. A bit of a metallic taste.

Bottle from Tallinna Kaubamaja (€ 4.40). BB Sept 2017. What a curious label. An elephant dancing on ice, Santa throwing bottles at Snowman, and in the upper part, a row of birds falling on their beaks. What will this beer make me do I wonder. The bottle’s also interesting. How do they do that? Anyway, the beer poured a clear caramel colour, its head was big initially but dropped fast, leaving a bit of lace and a thin layer. Creamy beige colour. On the nose I got caramel, mixed with some childhood cellar shop bubblegum, it was candy-like, and as it warmed, it acquired a clovey spiciness, also a pungent alcoholic note. Some grassy hops seemed to be present as well. It tasted of alcohol and indistinct spices, dark fruits and caramel, plus a lot of herbal bitterness later on. It finished grainy and metallic and somewhat dry. Body was medium, carbonation near flat, with a velvety smooth mouthfeel and nice alcoholic warmth. Overall: nice, boozy, ballsy, sweet, strong ale. As I prefer darker Belgians I found this to be somewhat better and more interesting than, for example, Duvel, that I had before.

Delirium Noël has a think, cream-colored head, a mostly clear, rust-read appearance, and a good bit of sediment suspended throughout. The aroma is of slightly fruity, sweet, brown bread crust, and the flavor is the same, with candy sugar and very low bitterness. There is also a strong spiced holiday bread component. Mouthfeel is between light and medium, and this beer finishes a little boozy. RJT
