Poured draft at Old Capitol Brew Works (Iowa City, IA) in a tulip glass. Color is brown with an occasional red or cranberry undertone. Nice head that seems to be ivory white. Smell is pleasant. Hoppy but more more mellow than it’s counterpart. Infact, this beer should be called "A much more mellow inviting version of our tremens". Upon taste I know one thing: I really enjoy it. Extremely mellow and smooth. Nice hop profile but much less harsh and acidic (Albeit, still acidic in areas) than a Tremens. Nice malt, some sort of berry, and some other spices. Trois Pistoles similiarities, but not nearly as good as one. A nice Belgian. Will / would drink again.

Cork says 2005. Pours ruby/orange into a trappist glass. Mocha head quickly subsides to skim surface. Honey and fig aromas. Sticky and full honey caramel with a lasting, slightly bittersweet finish. Quad-like.

Bottle: Pours a deep rusty color with a fading, fizzy tan head. Soft and sweet fruity aroma. Plummy, raisiny and with a big alcohol presence. There’s also a mild herbal note peeking through. Flavor has an apparent alcohol bite. Peppery ethanol, and sweet Belgian malts. Has some sweet raisin notes as well, but that’s about it. Simple and alcohol dominated. A bit of a let down.

UPDATED: DEC 25, 2007 To tell you the truth.....a little disappointed. Has a little too much of a lambic taste for me. Not what I was expecting.

750 ml bottle. Golden red body with a medium beige head. Sweet malty, spicy and some yeast in aroma. Sweet flavor, some alcohol, malt and fruit. Nice, complex but somehow not the most balanced beer around. Nevermind, it gave me some Christmas feeling.

Dark reddish brown with some clumpy brown floaties, a thin light tan head dissolves quickly. Strong alcohol aroma with some maltiness and strong spices. Warming spice flavors, strong malt and heavy alcohol with a spice finish and a solid carbonation.

Enjoyed on New Years Eve ’08. Pour is a medium brown semi opaque with a small tan head. The aroma is pleasant and big being full of fruit, alcohol, funk, licorice, and yeast. Flavor is similar with some spice. Smooth feel. Was surprised to find this had 10% alcohol.
