4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 darkguardian (713) - Florida, USA - MAR 19, 2008
12oz bottle courtesy of Knightly Spirits. Poured into a trappist glass. Aroma is of spice, malt, dark fruit. Pours very dark with a smallish fluffy head. Taste is very full yet the alcohol is hidden VERY well, this one is very easy to drink despite the 10%. Carbonation is lively but just right. The Flavor has a bit of a malty, yeasty flavor but creamier than the nocturne and not quite as dark. This seems to be much more ABT inspired. I tasted hints of chocolate and cherry in there as well as a cool spice note that made this an appropriate christmas ale. Another terrific offering from Huyghe’s Delirium line. This one is a little to strong to be a mainstay but its great for a winter night. Seems to hit you quite a bit harder than the Tremens or the Nocturne.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2011 A malty Belgian Barley wine. I ’d like to get my hands on a 750ml or six of this : What a beautiful beer label. The jolly fat elephant in the snow induces happy endorphins. The beer is very rich and don’t be surprised to feel as if there is chunks of syrup going down your throat. . Sugars ;fruit esters and boozy covered almonds. Not a elegant beer, but nice if you enjoy sticky sweet alcoholic drinks.

750mL bottle. Poured into Delirium Noel branded tulip glass, even!
A pleasant opaque orange-amber appearance with noticable sediment, although very smooth once in the mouth. Three finger head with only slight lacing. The alcohol was definately noticable in the aroma and flavor, but the spices and fruity hints offset any harshness fairly well. Flavor spiced up noticably as the beer warmed.

Hazy brown to copper, small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, Belgian sugar, dark fruits and spice. Taste of dark fruits, Belgian and brown sugars, yeast and some zesty spices. I liked this one more than Tremens and would buy it again.

Pours a rust red color with a smallish off white head. Fruity sweet nose with floral notes laced in. Taste is fruity/sweet with notes of pear apple and prunes. Alcohol is also clearly apparent in the taste. Syrupy mouth feel. As the finish approaches a hop bitterness begins to emerge and that finish consists of the hop bitterness mingled with the lingering fruit tastes. Good balance all the way through.

The beer pours a red amber with a thin but long lasting light brown head. The beer is very hazy and lightly filtered, there are very large chunks of stuff floating in the beer, which just adds to it’s drinkability. The beer is a complex mix of fruit, spice yeast and a hint of wood. The fruity note come out as a mix of dark fruit, cranberries, plums and oranges.
