An absoulute beauty enjoyed from the tap. Cupric orange in colour, spicey nose(cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom), Big and long in the mouth, moderate carbonation, Noticeably warming finish. Must taste!

Really nice Christmas beer. The aroma is nice and strong. The head is off white, with med foam. The taste is of fruity, spicy, bread, leather a little floral, fig, leather, sweet. Palate a little heavy on alcohol but nice. Overall a real nice offering, and I love red or brown red beer, this turns out great
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 pottygok (221) - Ohio, USA - NOV 28, 2011
Aroma: Complex mixture of raisin, clove, and nuts.
Appearance: Bright amber with a thick white head that dissipates quickly but leaves lots of lacing.
Taste: Light sourness immediately swallowed by a light bitterness and light sweetness that play off of each other..
Palate:Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation, long finish.
Overall: While it’s not exactly what I was expecting, this is a really well designed and developed beer. I’m not completely blown away by it, but I can see the care and crafting that went into this beer and I’m impressed.

On draft, this was all apples and toffee with the expected malt and smooth texture I’ve come to expect from this brewery. The crisp entry, and smooth finish was enamoring, but the subtle but festive apple and very slight cinnamon notes were so evocative of christmas cider, and the dark English toffee notes so very holiday-ish, I couldn’t help but love this beer. Tremens in still my faovrite, but this was definitely a triumph.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2005 750 mL brown corked bottle purchased from Whole Foods, Deerfield, IL. ABV 10%. Hazy dark orange amber ale having an average-sized diminishing creamy off-white head with fair lacing. Aroma bouquet of toffee, fruity esters (prune?) and alcohol. Soft carbonation. Full bodied that starts with sharpness and mouth exploding flavors of slight sweet malt, fruit, and toffee. Finishes dry with lingering bitterness. A very delicious Belgium ale.
12/12/05 update insert. On tap at Firkin’s, Libertyville, IL. Clear amber hued ale having a long-lasting large white head with good lacing. Nice aromas of fruity esters, banana, and spice. Medium bodied that starts with slight sweet malt, dried fruits, toffee, and spice flavors. Finishes dry with malt aftertaste. Notable alcoholic warmth. An excellent spicy Belgium ale for the winter holidays. Enjoyed on my birthday. Rating stays the same but I thought that the tap version was more aromatic and flavorful than bottled version.

Large 1pt 9oz bottle, poured red/brown with off-white frothy head, which lasted mostly and left nice lacing. Aroma of malt and dark fruit like Belgian Strong, but also some tart apple like a Tripel. Taste of dark fruit, tart caramel apple, and slight citrus. Light/medium body, and clear, not murky. Fizzy carbonation. All in all, some characteristics of a tripel and a belgian strong...clear and tart apple like a tripel, but dark fruit and malty like a belgian strong. I was very impressed with this beer...excellent!
