The particular character and the unique taste of "Delirium Tremens" result from the use of three different kinds of yeast. Its very original packing, which resembles cologne ceramics, and the colourful label contribute to its success.
In 1997, Stuart A. Kallen nominated Delirium Tremens as "best beer in the world". A gold medal during the "world beer championships" in Chicago (1998) confirmed that worldwide recognition.

Bottle at home from Beer Ritz, Leeds. Pours a pale yellow, with a finger of white head. Aroma is banana, ester, some light spices, cloves etc. Taste is wonderfully complex - sweet, tart, fruity, spicy. Banana, ester and spice. Alcohol is rather well hidden, too. Lovely, perfect, refreshing and dangerously drinkable. Should add, it wins an extra appearance point for the rather fantastic bottle.

It’s obvious why this beer so renowned... the Belgians are masters of balance. This ale is 8.5% ABV but goes down easier than a Bud Light. The aroma is interesting, a mix of bubble gum, sweet hay, and spice. The flavour is quite simple and honest... a bit yeasty with little hop complexity. I like it!

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2011 Tasted in bottle and on tap. Good balanced spicy beer. Nice yellow, with little head. On tap more attractive, first nice soury and spicy but at the end you can feel the real belgian ale character.

A clear yellow pour. Thick whit head. Hints of spice and banana. A good belgian. Not my favorite, but its worth a taste.

Serving glass: Poured from tap into Tulip. Appearance: Pale clear yellow with very white head. Aroma: Tart and dry banana and clove, with light banana notes. Taste: Both sweet and tart at the same time. Notes of banana, clove, raisin-like sugar, citrus, and ending with a long peppery finish. Palate: Moderate carbonation, with a light Belgian body and slightly dry finish. Overall: Light and flavorful Strong Belgian Ale that is a great sipper, but probably not quite worthy of the "voted best beer in the world status" they tout around.

On draught at the Trollekelder in Ghent. Good head over a cloudy and slightly fizzy blond beer. Poured into its own bulb glass. Delicious spicy aroma. Nice spicy taste, sits very nicely.

A very nice Belgian ale with a more fruity taste than I’d have thought. It took me about 10 years but I finally had this one. Not for lack of availability, mind you, I guess I’m just a little lazy. I figured since it’s so common there would always be a chance to try it at a later date. I’m glad I finally did.

Daught at Delirium Taphouse, Brussels, Belgium august 2011. Golden, clear with white head. Hoppy aroma with citrus notes. Spicy taste. A nice beer :-)
