The particular character and the unique taste of "Delirium Tremens" result from the use of three different kinds of yeast. Its very original packing, which resembles cologne ceramics, and the colourful label contribute to its success.
In 1997, Stuart A. Kallen nominated Delirium Tremens as "best beer in the world". A gold medal during the "world beer championships" in Chicago (1998) confirmed that worldwide recognition.

Embarrassing bottle and label. Perhaps it is possible to love a nation’s beers without sharing its sense of humour. Everything else about this beer is wonderful. The slightly cloudy golden colour and firm head were a good start. Aroma was full of sweetness and fruit. The taste followed beautifully, with banana to the fore and dryness at the end. Normallly I deplore too much fizziness. For some reason the relatively aggressive carbonation here seemed just right.

750ml Bottle. Hazy, yellow-orange hue with a generous frothy white head. Sweet bananas, citrus and spices dominate the nose. Faint caramel flavor from the light roasted malts. Pears and bananas in the mouth along with spices, clove and a dry peppery finish. A Slight bitter hop note doesn’t detract from this sweet, easy ale. I noticed that quite a few others noted hay or grass in the nose. By the time I got to sniffin’, the head was already diminished. Upon the second pour, I immediately stuck my nose into the glass, and whadda ya know, straw. More pronounced caramel malt flavor second time around. Greater alcohol notes, along with peppery bitterness. Ok, third glass, and I am sippin’. More of the same in the nose. sugary sweet hop notes stand out in the mouth this round. Packs quite a punch for a Belgium Golden. Delicious!

Draft at Hopleaf. Hazy peach/golden with tight 1" Guinness-like off-white head. Hay, bananas, and spices accentuated the very pleasant sweet malty aroma. Very creamy, smooth, and full on the palate. Pears and plums joined the bananas and spices in the flavor. Very solid malt backbone.. and well-balanced. Dangerously easy to drink.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2005 Tasted out of a Delirium Tremens Pink Elephant glass. Leads in with slight sweetness and fuit flavors (pears, hints of plums and just a touch of banana). Peppery, bitter finish with well hidden alcohol. Smooth drinking stong ale.

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2005 Bottle conditioned, exp. date: Aug. 06. Pours a hazy warm yellow with a dissappearing, white head. A nice, fruity smell spread as I poored the bottle. Sweet and quite bitter flavors. Aromas of, especially, banana, pepper and alcohol. Bitter finish. A nice, but a bit too bitter ale, in a very funny bottle.

Sampled from bottle. Pours cludy orange-gold with a thin, creamy white head. Aroma is spicy with pear, hard candy and leather. Flavor is slightly sweet with sugar, banana, grapes, pepper & clove. Medium-bodied, well-carbonated. A good ale.

33cl bottle, pours a cloudy apricot color and makes a fluffy white head. Lacing cascades down my glass with very compact, dense bubbles drifting down as I imbibe this. Strong yeast in the nose with a hint of vinegar. Light peppery spice flavor with coriander, lemon, yeast and alcohol. Medium to full palate with peppery carbonation, finishes quite dry. Excellent strong pale, I really enjoyed it.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2007 Sampled at Broudy’s Beerfest, Jacksonville, FL 9/03/05. Pours cloudy pale golden with ample white head. Nice Belgian yeasty aroma. Flavor is excellent with complex fruity notes and citrus, yeasty and spicy. Sweet, clean finish. Flavorful and yummy-tasty. The pink elephant motif doesn’t excite me, but the beer is excellent. Pretty close to awesome. I will certainly revisit this one. .. 9/30/2007 .. .. on tap at European Street Cafe, Jacksonville, FL.. 2 for 1 happy hour .. looks great in the correct glassware, nice big white head and lacing over clear blonde beer. Spicy, fruity, with bananas, citrus, clove and a well disguised alcholol bite. Light, refreshing and enjoyable, the only fault is its a bit thin in body. Delicious anyway.

Pours a somewhat cloudy, fizzy gold with a thin, white head. Aroma of apples, alcohol, spice, and a bit of fruity malts. Fuzzy palate. The flavor is complex and spicy. It starts dry, but gets sweeter toward the finish. Flavors of black pepper, bitter fruits, alcohol, and maybe honey. Very warm (thanks to the alcohol).

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2006 I love this beer! Maybe I judge it unfairly because I fel in love with it as soon as I spotted the bottle at KaDeWe in Berlin. 330ml poured into original glassware. Honey appearance w/ nice refreshing head. Amazing richness in the aroma. Coriander (?) clove and yellow fruits. Dry but full palate, massive body for being a blonde. After having had one you want to drink 6 more and fall into delirium.
