The particular character and the unique taste of "Delirium Tremens" result from the use of three different kinds of yeast. Its very original packing, which resembles cologne ceramics, and the colourful label contribute to its success.
In 1997, Stuart A. Kallen nominated Delirium Tremens as "best beer in the world". A gold medal during the "world beer championships" in Chicago (1998) confirmed that worldwide recognition.

Bière blonde extra-forte de 8.7 % d’alcool. Un goût sucré intéressant et surprenant au départ, un goût de céréale comme de l’orge et/ou du blé. Aucune certitude, mais un goût intéressant. À boire froide…

Bottle. Gold with some floating bits, an inch of white head. Aroma is sweet and messy: sweet oranges, apples, doughy and slightly cheesy yeast, alcohol, bubblegum. Taste is rather better: it’s sweet with oranges and some sugar but there’s a little sourness and quite a bit of white pepper and clove spiciness. Sharply carbonated mouthfeel adds to the needed bitey spices. Good balance and tastes a lot better than it smells.

Appearance: beautiful clear gold with lots of carbonation, huge fluffy white head that remains. Aroma: light, bready, bright fruit and grass; yeasty. Taste: carbonated bite, slightly sour and fruity, with a light hint of sweet pie crust; crisp yeast; cloves/coriander? Finish: short and crisp, with dry and tart fruits and light yeasty bread.. Notes: Extremely drinkable. You’d never know it was an 8.5 ABV. A classic.

Bottle. Golden, hazy, average and mostly lasting head. Moderate, malty sweetish very fruity aroma, light spiciness. Body is average, malty sweetish very fruity aroma, light spiciness and sourness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweet with some alcohol. Fruity and sweetish Belgian ale – not very special.

750 ml bottle. Pours a faint hazy yellow with a soft but fizzy white head. Aroma of ripe fruit, malt, light must, malt, very aromatic. Flavor is very much the same with notes of faint honey, earth, bread, mild hop spice, lightly sweet with candy sugar. Mouth feel is light-medium body with fizzy carbonation. Overall, very solid, easy drinking, very tasty brew.

On tap @ the Sunset Grill in Allston, MA: pours a light clear golden with a very modest head. Aroma is very funky, courtesy of those yeasts. It tastes like a wet dog. Really reminds me of a dog coming inside from being out in the rain. Spicy notes combine with Belgian sugars, I don’t get the 8.5% ABV. However I can’t get over the wet dog.

While this is a good beer, much better choices exist for the style. This beer has a bit of distinctiveness in the taste department, but after enjoying a good portion of it, sugary sweetness weighs on the finish and the malt profile is lacking.

Poured golden yellow and lively carbonation with an offwhite, creamy, lacing head. Fruity aroma of apples and grapes, strong yeasts, cinnamon, spices and hops. Medium dense body with sweet taste. Somewhat tarty. Alcohol well hidden but still warming. Fine one.
