3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ygberg (139) - SWEDEN - OCT 3, 2009
Aroma of yeast and grass. Appearance is clear yellow with big, white and fluffy head. Flavor of yeast, citrus and grass. Aftertaste is a bit bitter. Overall very good for being a blond Belgian strong ale.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 zdk (1625) - New York, New York, USA - SEP 30, 2009
on tap at Belgium Beer bar, NYC. I drank this on an empty stomach and got pretty buzzed. It’s got all the spiciness and lemon zest that I expect from a belgian strong but a nice ethanol note (but not overpowering to the flavor). Pours golden with lovely frothy head.
It’s up there though not the best BSA i’ve had. Also, at $9 for a glass, it was very overpriced (though that’s NYC for you).
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Doppelganger (1383) - Dry County, Arkansas, USA - SEP 27, 2009
Bottle, with Traci and David (AR’s newest rater!) Cheers David! Pale gold, dense fine white head. Gentle honey and marmalade nose, a little touch of that musky fresh tomato. Resiny herbal flavor, delicate clean pils malt, a nip of tartness in the finish. Straight-forward, well-made, nice beer.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beernovice39 (2093) - South Carolina, USA - SEP 25, 2009
Are...are...are those sea monkeys in my beer? Took a sip....lots going on here but not my thing. Passed to the wife who loved it and gave the rating.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 WakeandBake (549) - Greenville, Michigan, USA - SEP 20, 2009
Bottle.A clear golden pour with a medium sized frothy white head that lasted forever , lots of yeast chunks floating around with a huge jet of tiny carbonation bubbles coming from the bottom, lots of lacing and sheeting . Aroma is spicy ,and lightly yeasty , lots of fruity notes ,pineapple, lemon, banana, maybe peaches . Flavor is of pale malt grain , some grassy hops with nice fruit notes. Quite yeasty bready , a light honey like sweetness with some flashes of peppercorns . A nice balance between the malt , hops , and yeast . Crisp light body for such a high ABV , no bad alcohol flavors or aromas.Slick lively mouthfeel, quite drinkable. Well crafted and enjoyable
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 kenb (1102) - Oregon, USA - SEP 19, 2009
750ml bottle via Hagen. Pours a hazy amber with an average off white head. Lots and lots of yeast floaters bouncing around from the bubbly carbonation. Extra point for the entertainment!!
Nose is sour and fruity. Taste is sour fruit, some funky barnyadiness from the yeast, peppercorns, grapes, a bit of nuttiness, and some earthiness. Body is medium, carbonation is moderate to high. THis is a strange beer that i think would improve with age as it is a bit rought around the edges. LOTS AND LOTS going on here, but does not meld together real well, at least not with a new bottle.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Fratto (2021) - Arlington, Texas, USA - SEP 18, 2009
Weird, but not offensive. Almost smells too fruity. I don’t really even know what to say about it.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Kuzo (109) - Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 18, 2009
Poured from a bottle in to a tulip glass. This bottle got lost in my collection for about 5 years so I was eager to see how this one aged.
Poured a semi-cloudy orange with fluffy white head. A whole lot of chunks came out of this one. Many more than I expected. The clump of sediment actually made a splash and a "thump" sound as it fell in to the glass. I was almost afraid to drink it.
Smells of bread, yeast, banana, and hints of bubblegum and tea-berry. I have never ever tasted tea-berry in a beer before so this was quite unique. Occasional hints of vinegar and floral. Aroma was all over the place.
Full bodied and lots of carbonation. Turns soft and creamy on the finish. It almost felt like drinking wine.
Big yeast taste, banana, bubblegum, dough, earthy, citrus, grape, alcohol on the finish. The taste is even more complex than the aroma. All the while quite balanced and drinkable.
This may not be the best beer I’ve ever had but it is the most interesting. I bought a case about 5 years ago but this is my first rating from it. I still have 2 more bottles remaining so I’m very excited to try another one. I’m just as excited to try a newer bottle to compare. I will definitely have to do a second rating at that point.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 workmaj4 (1) - Ohio, USA - SEP 17, 2009 does not count
Nice Golden color. Less than 1/2" head. The foil on the bottle is always sticky and nasty. Realized it was glue from other comment. Strong yeast flavor. Nice flavor
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 after4ever (4500) - Brier, Washington, USA - SEP 15, 2009
750. Corked, baled, and foiled. And that foil? They glue it on. Nasty. Very tacky--literally. It takes a fair amount of motivation to excite me enough to open one of these as it is. Don’t make it any harder than it already is, Huyghe. Pours a crystal clear, slightly burnished dark gold. Creamy, somewhat fizzy white head. Dusty caramel green apple nose. Kind of trippel-y, with honey added. Sticky, fizzy body, tons of sugar everywhere: green apple, perfume, bubblegum, honey. Just a big dessert-y goo. Cloying finish.
