The particular character and the unique taste of "Delirium Tremens" result from the use of three different kinds of yeast. Its very original packing, which resembles cologne ceramics, and the colourful label contribute to its success.
In 1997, Stuart A. Kallen nominated Delirium Tremens as "best beer in the world". A gold medal during the "world beer championships" in Chicago (1998) confirmed that worldwide recognition.

Huyghe’s most famous beer, a tripel in an opaque bottle with the hallmark Huyghe aluminum foil around the neck and the inspiring label depicting a marcherade of crocodiles and elephants. Had this in the original 9% ABV version years ago, now it is apparently ’downtuned’ to 8.5% ABV. Pours an almost clear, but very slightly hazy golden, very quietly sparkling blonde with a good deal of fizz, under a thinnish and quickly diminishing, off-white, slightly lacing head; milky ochre with deposit. Aroma of green apple, starfruit, lemon zest, green plums, white rhum, dried banana, canned apricot, eau de vie, soap, cake, white vinegar, sweat, cider, sourish grains, roses, a very slight hint of ammonia and an equally slight hint of H2S (rotten egg). Taste begins with an estery fruitiness of apple peel, unripe peaches, dried banana and lime, strong and minerally carbo, then a certain amount of citrus peel acidity kicks in, some spicy yeastiness, sweetish pale malts in the background, alcohol already noticeable. Finish consists primarily of warming, yet not too wry, calvados-like alcohol, some ’European’ leafy hop bitterness and a slick honeyish maltiness without being cloying; something phenolic appears as well. Yes, I know this is one of the classic Belgian tripels (or rather: ’edelbieren’, if you’re inclined to compare with the obiquitous Duvel), but it still fails to convince me. I tasted this in its original version (which I think was softer and more elegant - but who knows), from 33 cl and a lot of times from tap, but the sweaty, almost sulphuric graininess still bothers me, as well as the fact that the brewer clearly doesn’t care to which extent the alcohol remains unnoticeable. I am not convinced this is the best Huyghe has to offer (though it is hard to think of anything better) and I never liked this brewery in the first place - but I’m willing to admit this is a kind of classic, considering the fact that it has been around since 1986. In all: influential as a sort of compromize between actual tripel and the ’Duvel’-style ’edelbier’, but the aroma has an off-putting quality and the alcohol is way too obvious. Huyghe is a kind of hit-or-miss brewery: I’m still waiting for their first hit.

-excellent head and lacing -floral and light fruity aroma, as well as spicy -bitter orange taste at the back of the tongue, which lingers -the alcoholic taste is prevalent -great finish -great as a palate cleanser as it cuts through big flavours -Great with a lamb shank roast with all trimmings stay away from the mint sauce odes not do well with sweet foods.

Bardzo alkoholowe, co zabija praktycznie to piwo. Poza tym w aromacie i smaku typowo belgijskie.

330ml bottle at the Garnet. Crazy effervescence which seems to never let up. Huge foam head with thick lacing over a transparent bright straw body. Tropical fruit hop aroma is present alongside some citrus, orange zest, and alcohol. Quite light bodied with exceedingly well integrated alcohol.
