COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned.
Launched on December 26th 1989 @ 9% abv. Abv reduced from 9% to 8.5% in 2003.
The particular character and the unique taste of "Delirium Tremens" result from the use of three different kinds of yeast. Its very original packing, which resembles cologne ceramics, and the colourful label contribute to its success.
In 1997, Stuart A. Kallen nominated Delirium Tremens as "best beer in the world". A gold medal during the "world beer championships" in Chicago (1998) confirmed that worldwide recognition.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2003 Pours a sparkling clear golden color with lots of spritz. Huge, frothy white head. Mostly lasting with thick, creamy lacework. The aroma is of spice, citrus fruit, banana, light butterscotch and white bread dough. Fruity tasting with notes of coriander, honey, white wine and alcohol. Decently balanced by the alcohol and yeast... not sure about the hops. Medium-bodied with a fizzy, dry, astringent mouthfeel. Short, dry, strawy finish.

Bottle conditioned, 330ml aged 7 yrs, 9% version. Clear gold with white head. This beer ages so well, it becomes rounded and full, the spice and citrus notes blend into a candy pear drop flavour that fills the mouth, the alcohol is still present, but is warming and smooth instead of a little rough. There is a caramel note, but avoids the port like flavours that darker beers age into. It’s obviously not the greatest beer in the world, as per the blurb, but it is pretty good and better for aging.

(33cl bottle) Unclear, golden colour with loads of particles swimming around and a big foamy white head. Moderately yeasty, sweet malty and slightly vinous fruity (citrus, peach) nose with light grainy and biscuit-like accents and a noticeable dash of alcohol. Sweet flavour with hints of acidity, full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly grainy malty and fruity taste with an early arriving alcoholic strength; medium-dry sweet and slightly bitter brandy-like finish. Not to be overrated.

a sim rate: (on tap) One of my faves, especially on tap. It tingles in your mouth. Very fruity aroma. I can pick out peaches. There are definite peach and berries in the flavour. You can clearly tell that it’s strong and the alcohol is there, but not at all overwhelming which makes it nicely drinkable. Lovely stuff!

Ignore the jokey packaging, this strong blondish amber beer is quite serious in intent. Lots of spicy characteristics and citric nuances disquise the alcohol quite well and make for a dangerously drinkable beer. Rather pleasant. Dulle Griet bar, Gent, September 2003

Test vom 9.12.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 13,9,9,8,7,9 - 9,15
