The particular character and the unique taste of "Delirium Tremens" result from the use of three different kinds of yeast. Its very original packing, which resembles cologne ceramics, and the colourful label contribute to its success.
In 1997, Stuart A. Kallen nominated Delirium Tremens as "best beer in the world". A gold medal during the "world beer championships" in Chicago (1998) confirmed that worldwide recognition.

Pours a hazy orange tinted yellow, with a coarse and small head. The carbonation is visibly coarse, with large and effervescent bubbling. Head dissipates rapidly, leaving little trace of its presence. On the nose, the aroma is both yeasty and fresh, with mango and banana notes, followed by passion fruit. Mouthfeel is terrific. Light and mineral, with some interesting metallic notes. The yeast flavour is unique and enchanting. The carbonation is actually quite welcome and balanced! The alcohol is well integrated, even for 8.5%. Well done. Can I get something similar from America for half the price? Yes.

Drinking from tab at Delirium cafe Amsterdam. No special aroma, just some alcohol. The clear golden beer has a medium white head. The taste is sweet and hoppy. Medium carbonated.

33 cl bottle at home. Pours with a massive white head that soon disappears. Blonde colour. Aroma of perfumed hop, very floral. Taste is sweet with a little bitterness. Average mouthfeel with a nice, dry finish. Overall: OK.

Sour but sweet, heavy but gentle. Interesting taste, not a typical beer that you would taste often.

Belle blonde dorée, puissante et ronde, de beaux arômes équilibrés entre sucre, houblon et fruité. Très bonne bière apéritive.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 18D). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L09_14_190. AROMA: subtle and sweet malt aroma mixed with spicy (clive) and some faint citric (Orange-like) aromas. APPEARANCE: golden color and somewhat clear. large white head with good retention and lacing. TASTE: malt sweetness with some spicy background notes. subtle orange-like esters. medium-low to medium bitterness that lingers into a semi-dry finish. PALATE: medium body with medium-high carbonation. faint alcohol warmth. OVERALL: a belgian golden strong ale reference although a bit more subtle.
