The particular character and the unique taste of "Delirium Tremens" result from the use of three different kinds of yeast. Its very original packing, which resembles cologne ceramics, and the colourful label contribute to its success.
In 1997, Stuart A. Kallen nominated Delirium Tremens as "best beer in the world". A gold medal during the "world beer championships" in Chicago (1998) confirmed that worldwide recognition.

02.11.05 750ml bottle, cork dated 2.004 Pours a hazed yellowish gold with an initially massive and frothy white head that quickly fades to a thin, coating layer of foam with sudsy bubbles. Suprisingly unattractive for some reason I don’t fully understand. Aromas are very sweet, lightly herbal, mint, touches of raw bell pepper, celery, and lemon. Hops and yeasts seem an odd mix on nose, muddled by weakly presented maltiness. Much more bitter than expected, that’s a nice surprise in such a big Belgian. Lightly floral, more herbs, some pineapple that lingers along with a yogurt like aftertaste and finish. A sort of cocoa butter flavor and aroma emerging with temp. Long, dry ending. Little alcohol dominance other than the pepperiness. So-so tasting, but I’m not enthralled; it smells funny and ain’t so pretty.

A bottle from the basement of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, opposite Taipei Main Station, drunk at home. The bottle is very attractive. Aroma: sweetly hoppy, floral. Appearance: clear amber, minimal head. Palate: medium-bodied, very fizzy carbonation. The finish is sweet. Taste: the candy sweetness is overpowering, I don’t like it much.

Clear golden body and a white non-descript head. Nice nose with sweetness of bubblegum, yeast, sweet bread,. Quite carbonated, with an off flavor on the finish. The nose on this beer is better than the flavor. Finish more disappointing. Hard to believe I’ve never rated this beer previously.

Comparing this with a Duvel, which I prefer. This is a bit sweeter, less spicy. The Belgian yeast is stronger here, and the artificial banana smell is a bit too heavy. Still, it is a beautiful looking beer and the tastes are very well balanced. The mouthfeel is great but the aftertaste is annoyingly acidic.

18.09.2016 - From tap at BeatBarButzemann Freiburg. Sweet light alcoholic smell. Reminds me of an old medical office and biscuits. Taste of a sweet belgian strong ale with a nearly german bitterhop taste. Bittersweet finish with a lot of alcohol.

A real classic. A good beer industry, secure, accurate, does not lie. With a reasonable price you have a Belgian beer, a good Belgian beer, stable, secure, made craft.

Bottle. Golden with a golden head that soon dissipated. Slightly bitter with a bitter body leaving a strong aftertaste which was slightly acidic. A good example of this style.

Tutaj królują aromaty będące pochodnymi charakterystycznych dla Belgii drożdży. Dominują w nich kwiaty, przyprawy i owoce. Jest więc ładna słodka brzoskwinia, miód i wyraźny banan. Są też miłe, chlebowe nuty słodu. W smaku lekko drapiące, pieprzowe, zdecydowanie wytrawne i rozgrzewające.

Alta drinkability.

0,33l bottle. Cloudy golden colour with quickly shrinking big white head. Aroma: Has an intense floral aroma with skunky and boozey notes, sadly. Also candy sugar, light banana. Not bad, and the wierd notes disappeared with a little bit of time. Taste: Quite sweet fruity start with a very light sour caracter and a slightly bitter mouthfeel. A bit sweet but isn’t unpleasent and overall well balanced. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. Medium lasting bitter/sweet finish. Quite good strong belgian ale.
