33cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Kermis. BAD GUSHER. Creamy white head. Cloudy amber pour. Nothing special. Marked it down due to the gushing

Als je het riekt en uitschenkt zou je het niet direct zeggen, maar dit bier heeft echt een goeie smaak.

Alengrin (1742) - BELGIUM - JUL 12, 2014
Rating from memory, as I have tasted this in 2007 and I am not sure this is still brewed (after all, the "Fanfare Sint-Vincentius" has been in existence for 106 years now, so if Herberg still produces this, I guess they would have to change the name every year...). Thin but stable, off-white head, colour a deep brownish amber with quite conspicuous and not very attractive protein veils in the end; aroma weak, some orange, peach, toast, white pepper; taste begins with a soft fruitiness, rounded on a caramel-malt basis, typically ’Belgian’, spicy yeast notes, end rather disappointing due to the lack of hop bitterness to balance the yeastiness.

Bottle: Thanks to Benzai: Served in a snifter: Medium to smaller sized vast creamy foamy head on top of a murky yellow colored beer. Aromas of hops, fruits, pine, mango, malts, oat, yeast and floral tones. Flavours of hops, yeast, fruits, mango, pine apple, bitter, dry, corn, light woody and floral. Aftertaste is bitter, floral, grainy, some hops and fruits and some creamy spices. Low carbo, medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel and a creamy thicker texture.

33 cl. bottle @ home. From Willems. Label seems to suggest a very, very small brewery at work here even by Belgian standards. Going by their website, it seems like this is actually the work of a brewpub (a big rarity in Belgium, I know only of 3 exiting brewpubs in Belgium at this moment including this one). Pours a murky peach orange with a small white head. Smells of soured dough, overripe banana, BE yeast, sweet and exotic fruits, clear signs of hop. Taste is sour green banana, lots of it, sour dough yeast, BE yeast, old orange peel, fermenting soft peaches, bitter grass in the back, multi-fruit juice and some of candy sugar, some bitter yeast in the back. Sparkling, odd fizzy carb, yeasty. Shows potential but it does seem like this has some issues.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2013 33cl bottle. APPEARANCE: amber beer, small rather stable off white head. NOSE: bitterness, hops, quite a lot of sugar, malts. TASTE: lots of caramel, a very strange taste, reminds me a little of baked meat... some spices there too, but in total, not that good a beer... Thx Mathieu87 for these!
