For years local air taxis have ferried mountain climbers to the base camp on the south side of Denali, flown flight seeing tours over “The High One,” and dropped off backpackers and other outdoor enthusiasts in all corners of the Alaska backcountry. Denali Brewing Company draws the inspiration for its red ale from Talkeetna’s rich aviation history. Brewed with five choice American and European malts and just enough hops for balance, we hope you find Single Engine Red a suitable compliment to your next Alaskan adventure, whether in the air or on the ground.

12 oz can. Pours a light copper amber with a quick fizz head. Bread and malt aroma. Flavor is a little sweet. Bready malts and light spice in the finish. Not bad.

Can. Pours a mostly clear amber color with a moderate off-white head on it. Nose is toasty with some dough coming through underneath. Taste is lightly sweet up front, but has a bit of toast throughout. Meh.

Unfortunately drank out of a non beer clean glass, and there is whether it’s in my mind or legit a taste of detergent. Caramel aroma, nice ruby appearance. Mostly malt forward, but has a moderate hop bitterness to back up the malt. Medium light bodied, finishes with a little piney and woodsy hop flavor. At 5.8 it’s Sessionable, but could use a little more body in my opinion.

Pours a semi-dark red and leaves a brown/red colored body, half finger white foamy head that dies within about thirty seconds, some light lacing that slides into the body; the aroma has caramel malts coming through in a bland sort of way, shallow earthiness to it; the flavor is mainly sweet through the caramel malts, caramel aftertaste, dry finish; its pretty easy on the palate and is somewhat sessionable, carbonation is somewhat smooth for the style and good to me; overall, not a bad American Red/Amber ale, though it could be construed as an Irish Red because of the lack of hops, still acceptable to have again, though I may not seek out
