5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
UPDATED: NOV 24, 2009 Yes, I gave it 5/5. It is not my favourite beer I have ever tasted, but it is a perfect example of the style and definitely in my top 10. It has great complexity, with a mouthfeel which rolls over your tongue multiple times exposing the depths of its flavours ranging from citrus to banana and other various flavours. A wonderful beer. Had on tap many times and enjoyed every last ounce.
Drinking from a can right now. Certainly doesnít live up to the perfection of the on-tap version, oh how I wish it were bottled and not canned! Iím still going to enjoy the 12 cans I bought though because itís not bad. Great to be able to take home. Loses a bit of complexity in the palate, and the aftertaste is somewhat muted in comparison to the on tap version. Still silky smooth, I have a little bit of a cold right now and therefore the flavours and aroma cannot be assessed perfectly, but it seems to have lost a little bit of the spice that is prominent in the tapped version while still retaining some nice banana flavours.

A truly great weiss beer! Aromas of bananas, and peaches? Hazy golden body that looks as good as it tastes. Wonderful fruity aftertaste lingers on the palate. This is the best wheat beer I have had to date! Itís the same wheat beer made by the Denisons brewpub which used to be rated number 1 in the world before they shut down. Still Number 1 as far as Iím concerned.

This one is a knock out. Best beer of this style I ever tasted. Since 1996, I've been a loyal sampler. You gotta open up somewhere. Don't take this away from me.

Oh so good. If you love or like the style this is the best their is. From the can this pours a hazy-glorious-sunshiny-straw with a lovely little head that remains with the glass the whole way down followed by haphazardly lazy lacing. Aromas of cloves, banana and citrus with a lovely straw-like summer wheat malt character that instantly transports the drinker to the Manitoba wheat fields on a languid late summer afternoon. I hate getting to the bottom of the glass, but only for a moment before I remember thereís more chilling in the fridge, oh happy day!
Really this stuff is that good!

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Available only at the brew pub although this may change soon. This is the best Weizen Iíve had out of Ontario. Beautiful straw like colour with a very resilient head. Heavier on the banana/bubblegum and less cloves. This pub is a required stop for any beer hunter going through Toronto.

Great local Toronto beer. Easily as good, if not better, than Hoegarden. It has a nice citrus after taste without being overpowering, and the corriander flavour is mild but noticable. If it is on the menu, and you like wheat beer, this is definately for you.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2003 Re-rating to reflect the new Mill St. version, although it's really not very different, and my numerical ratings haven't changed. I'm SO glad that this beer has been revived after the closure of Denison's Brewpub earlier this year. It remains a world class example of it's style, with the classic banana and clove combo in the aroma, wonderful fruit and yeast in the flavour, and that amazingly crisp and lingering finish that keeps you coming back for more. I can't wait for patio season to start so I can sit in the sun on a warm afternoon and enjoy a pint or two (or three...) of this. Ahhhhhh...

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2005 Re-rate. Not much else needs to be said. My original score was a little low (low 3ís) only because I rated it from a keg at a private party and the serving conditions were far from ideal. Iíve certainly changed in my appreciation of different styles in the past 2 years as well. I love the Banana in the aroma, the full bodied chewiness, the perfect appearance when served right (I usually get mine at Volo) - this is wonderful stuff and the brewer is a fantastic person to chat with. A must have if youíre visiting Toronto and a regular item for those of us who live here.
