A little sweet but not big deal, it was a little strange, and the clip is weird, just as the aviator’s one. Weird beer.

Stall malt flavor with an alcohol and acid aftertaste. Light golden with little aroma and a white head. I’ll pass if offered again.

On cask at Greyhound Hotel, Shap. Pours golden, quite a strong taste, nothing complex. Perfectly chuggable ale.

Bottle from Carringtons, Chorlton. Amber looks with nothing much to shout about in terms of head. Sweetish gently fragrant nose with some pale malts, floral hop and summer fruit lurking. Similar story to the flavour with some bitterness towards the finish. Nothing earth shattering, but easy drinking and likeable enough stuff.

50 cl bottle, from tourist shop, Haworth, UK. Hazy copper colour, heavy spiced apricot aroma. Bright and bitter, fresh with some yeasty malt undertones.

Bottle. Bright orange with a high, rocky head hissing but going nowhere. Eventful aroma evoking regurgitated shortbread, strawberry Campinos, flowers, wood, vomit, a touch of sock -but I like it. Clean and delicately tangy with bags of flowery, marmalade hop, shortbread and a fresh, doughy, dunked biscuit and cream sweetness in the aftertaste. Full and soft; minerals, salts without snatch, apricot jam spread on slate- has something of a Scottish or Yorkshire fullness to it. Distinctive, likeable brew all round.

500ml bottle. Poured with a slowly decreasing though mostly lasting, frothy off-white-beige head atop a clear, lively light golden amber body. Really quite sweet caramel & toffee malt aromas, some subtler bready tones too. Hops are negligible on the tongue as well with boiled sweet & caramel notes really coming to the fore backed by some light fruity notes. Medium body, soft to medium carbonation, a short bittersweet finish - though predominantly sweet - with caramel in the aftertaste.

50cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Golden amber with a ring of white head; the aroma has sweet apricots and some leafy hops; light dry malty taste with some butterscotch and perhaps a touch of citrus; and a dry finish.

[500ml bottle, The Bottle, York] Nice dark brown, nutty hue. Hoppy for a bitter, more like a dry golden ale – there’s not much malt in there considering it’s from the north of England – but is a very drinkable session beer, improves the more you have. In terms of being an ESB it pushes towards the golden ale category – which is of course irrelevant when considering what is a decent stand-up drinker. [24/04/2010]

Bottle from George and Dragon Dent. Light amber with a thin head some lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet hops some citrus. Sweet and a bit syrupy.
