Bottle. Black with a beige foam. Aromas are peat and light roasted malts with dark chocolate and treacle. Earthy and rich. Flavours are bitter roasted coffee with hints of chocolate. Quite dry and bitter on the finish. Good.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before 3 Nov 2010, drank and reviewed 19 Oct 2010. Poured into an ’Abbot Ale’ tankard. The bottle label tells a pleasant tale about ’Dent Railway Station’ and the walk to the brewery from the said station, buy a bottle to read it! Wonderful looking dark body, even held up to the light it still retained it’s depth and darkness. On top sat a deep tan coloured foaming blanket which produced huge rich lacing as I downed the beer. The smells were malty and leaning towards liquorice more than any sweeter trends. The taste was all malt with very little hop content being found. Like the aroma, the maltiness favoured the less sweet side, with again liquorice being the lead player in my estimation. The body was full and fairly rich, espeicialy when you remember the alcohol content is only 3.8% ABV. Easy to drink and very ’moreish’, wish I’d bought more when I got this bottle.

Bottle. Black with low carbonation. Chocolate dominates but the thiness distracts from the overall flavour. More body and this would have been a very nice beer. Definitely a ’might have been beer’’

Solid black, no tint with a lasting creamy frothy tan head. Strong smell of malt, roast, sweet malt, chocolate, and coffee. Medium light thin body. Taste of chocolate, light berry on the finish. Strong chocolate cream feeling.

Cask - The Plasterers Arms, Norwich. Poured a deep, dark brown with a slowly fading loose & doming tan head. Smoke, roasted malt and a light, sharpish green apple & red berry tang on the nose. Red berry, salty seaweed and smoke with a yeasty background note on the palate. Light to medium body, soft palate texture. Finishes with a dryish lingering smoky, roasty bitterness.

Darkbrown with a ruby tint and tiny covering of bubbles. Aroma of sour cherry and cocoa powder. Quite dry with slight barley roastedness but lot of chocolate and a fruity coffee finish. Lots of flavour for the ABV!

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2011 (Bottled) The 3.8 % booze gives a less full body than id like , I enjoyed this ale regardless of this character flore . An expressie chocolate ..roasty cofee .. winey nose is offered .It looks like a Porter should .. This beer gives its drinker notes of coffee ,dark chocolate , roasty bitterness that is somewhat burnt and tart dry on the finish . Eazy to drink and pleasant , but milder than the top Porters.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. It’s slightly hazy in the glass, chestnut colored and with a small beige head. The aroma is quite roasted, with coffee and hints of dried fruits and dark chocolate. Smooth, thin bodied and quite pleasantly carbonated. Lasting flavor with roasted, coffee-like malts and dried fruits, just a hint of bitterness. A pleasant surprise, tasteful and sort of quenching, in a coffee-like way. Would like more of this. 110128
