3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 notalush (3744) - Denver, USA - AUG 21, 2011
Hazy straw color - supposedly made with peppercorns and a few other things - not always a fan of so many adjuncts in my saison - nose is tangy and wheaty - I get some lemongrass and orange, but none of the anticipated complexities generated by the yeast - the flavor is kind of the same - tastes a bit like a spices wheat beer - a bit of lemon, peppery notes (though it tastes like actual pepper rather than phenols), toasted wheat, a light citric tanginess - lingering wheat and pepper in the finish - it isn’t bad, but there is no real character from the yeast, which I guess is why they added the adjuncts - a decent hot weather beer, but not entirely saison-like - kind of a fitting name, I guess.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 adnielsen (3756) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - AUG 31, 2011
Tap @ brewery. Dark yellow orange appearance with a fluffy, white head. Cool, floral, mildly spicy belgian yeasty, peppery, mild citrusy, appetizing aroma. Fairly floral with some bitterness, peppery, moderately spicy, belgian yeasty, refreshing flavor. Some citrus but a lot of pepper and flowers. Not bad though it’s not your prototypical saison.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ratman197 (5935) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - AUG 28, 2011
On tap at Denver Beer poured a clear tarnished gold with a lingering ring of ivory foam. Aromas of straw, earthiness, pepper, banana and light pear. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, earthiness, pepper and light fruittiness with a crisp dry lingering pepper finish.
