COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wild Turkey bourbon barrels filled with our Oatmeal Stout. We pull 50 gallons of our stout off the fermenter and condition it for weeks in an oak cask fresh from the distillery.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2011 Tap @ brewery. Very dark brown appearance with a creamy brown head. Oak, some whiskey with a creamy stout aroma. Creamy mouthfeel with an initially a bourbon flavor followed a dark malty Stout flavor. Finsh is smooth with some whiskey and dark malts.

Sample at the brewpub (as "Wild Turkey™ Barrel Conditioned Stout"). This brew pours black with a minimal beige head that is gone pretty quickly. Nil lacing as well. Whiskey aroma with notes of vanilla and malt. Medium body with a boozy character and flavors of chocolate malt, vanilla, and dark fruit. The finish is oaky bourbon with a lingering warming alcohol and malt aftertaste. Overall this one takes a minute to adjust to after several less flavorful beers, but is still a relatively straightforward beer. Decent all in all.

tap at Denver ChopHouse - Pours near black and smells mainly of bourbon. The oak bourbon flavor is huget in the flavor too and while tasty if one likes bourbon, it buries everything else. The body is also on the light side for a stout. So overall liking bourbon means you’ll probably like this beer, but others have done more with barrel aging.

Draft at the brewery. Just because you take a stout and stick it in a bourbon barrel, it is not instantly great. This just seemed like they tried too hard to me. The bourbon notes were strong up front and drowned everything else out. No subtle notes, more like a kick in the teeth. Nice but nothing special.

Draft Denver ChopHouse under the name Wild Turkey Bourbon Conditioned Stout-11/4/08-pours a dark black with no head. Aroma of bourbon and more bourbon. Taste has some oak, vanilla, sweetness, and roasted malt. This full bodied stout was not bad. A little flat but well balanced with the bourbon coming through on the back end.

On tap at the Denver ChopHouse, under the name of Wild Turkey Barrel Conditinned Stout. Dark brown color, with no head, malty, faint roasty malt, fruity, vanilla woody bourbon, whiskeyish nose, with some smooth oatmeal cereal, chocolatey, cocoa accents, in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet, toasty, roasty malt, fruity, warmth vanilla, woody, oaky, whiskeyish character, with some hints of chocolate cup, raisiny, filled with an alcholic liqueur, leading towards a warming, bourbonish barrel, vanilla, faint chocolatey finish.

Poured pitch black with a nice tan head that didn’t hang around too long. Stong hits of alcohol and the wild turkey right from the start. Bourbon flavor is firm but not overwhelming. I’d love to know what the abv is on this one. My guess is 8%+. Oaky and malty it has a full and hard finish that went great with the burger I had for dinner. Worth a try for sure if you’re in LoDo.

Draught. Pours black with a small, fizzy, light brown head, diminishing, fair lacing. Aroma is average malt (molasses, caramel, roasted), light hops (grass), average yeast (leather) with notes of smoke and bourbon. Medium bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. Very similar to the non-Bourbon stout.
