3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 MarinaMarket (176) - POULSBO, USA - FEB 6, 2012
Aroma from the neck is malty, roasted, and carmelized sugar. Pours very dark red with a frothy tan head. The head itself has a hoppy aroma and takes a while to flatten down. Nice legs! Lightly carbonated with a medium to thick body, and nutty malt flavor. Malt forward with a muted but tasty bitter hop on the finish. This is a well balanced sweet stout with just enough hop flavor to make it an interesting and easy to drink stout. Even a bit creamy and slightly sticky with a hint of coffee, chocolate, and biscuit. Tasted from the bottle @ 54F.

Black bodied, rather flat. Baked biscuit roastiness in the nose and body with a mildly complex roasty flavor that ends dry. Some piny hop notes in the periphery. A solid porter/stout.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 TheRealMGD (385) - Lakewood, Washington, USA - MAR 5, 2011
On tap @ Der Blokken. Black-brown pour with a persistant short tan head leaving moderate lace. Chocolate nose. Medium-light body is dry but there are baking chocolate, coffee, vanilla and faint cherry notes which add an implied sweetness. Finish is dry, pine bitter, chocolate, oily and almost peppery. This is an outstanding, richly-flavored stout which is quite sessionable.
