Malt, almost malt extract like dominates the aroma, almost cloyingly sweet smell. Flaour adds a touch of bitterness and not much else.

Bottle from a fridge. Not a very appealing drink. Pale amber (perhaps umber). Smell is rather deadened. Flavour of cardboard shreddies. A bitter malt experience. Stewed, humped UK hoppage.

Has a sweet, malty aroma and the taste is similar, though a little bit bland. Okay and nothing more.

50 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK via The Dram Shop. Slightly hazy copper, sweet malt aroma, caramel and some floral hops. Sweet flavour, forward bitterness with a mellow brown sugar body.

If you close your eyes you can still tell its a derby brewing company beer. That’s because they all have that unique, bland, boring, offensively pointless taste. This is no different.

Bottle from myBrewerytap.com. Pours clear amber with a tiny beige head. Aroma of caramel malts, hay. Taste is moderate sweet, dark caramel, light hopped for that moderate bitter finish. Nothing outstanding, but drinkable.

Red brown colour. Slightly fruity nose. Has a balanced flavour; fruity malty then a bitter finish.

BlackHaddock (2350) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 30, 2012
Brown 500ml bottle, best before Sept 09, drank May 09. Poured into a UK pint sleeve glass. Lovely deep amber, clear body with a good off-white head sat on top. The head tried to stay but faded towards the end of the tasting. Malt Loaf, then dark caramel and treacle. Sounds sickly, but the aromas were there without the sweetness factor. This is one of the maltiest beers from the UK I’ve ever tasted. The Challanger, Goldings and Northdown hops try to break through, but even though they are whole hops (not in pellet form), they only just make an appearance if you search for them. Lacks true body depth and any creamy or richness, it does however ’feel right’.
