Hazy, beautiful amber. Sticky, rocky white head even. Pretty fresh tasting, but leaving a considerable grainy, almost husky astringency in its long aftertaste. Kinda toasty, dry malt flavours absorb the bitterness more than the opposite. Little hop aromas in there, barely leafy and that’s it. Could use some adjustments in the malt-hop duality.

Red brown colour. Slightly fruity nose. Has a balanced flavour; fruity malty then a bitter finish.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before Sept 09, drank May 09. Poured into a UK pint sleeve glass. Lovely deep amber, clear body with a good off-white head sat on top. The head tried to stay but faded towards the end of the tasting. Malt Loaf, then dark caramel and treacle. Sounds sickly, but the aromas were there without the sweetness factor. This is one of the maltiest beers from the UK I’ve ever tasted. The Challanger, Goldings and Northdown hops try to break through, but even though they are whole hops (not in pellet form), they only just make an appearance if you search for them. Lacks true body depth and any creamy or richness, it does however ’feel right’.

Bottle. Lovely copper-amber with a thin white head. Cooked bread and malts on the nose with some mild caramels. In mouth, there’s a dried fruit punch - dates, a little plum. That malty taste develops in the mouth too. Porridgey wheats. A dry bitter. Some oaky notes. Pretty pleasant and sessionable this.

Cask conditioned at The Brewery Tap, Derby. Brownish amber with white head. Grainy malts, almost underbrewed in character leading to a dry bitterness, some cigarette ash, tobacco in the close. It’s ok.

Pours yellow/orange/amber. Small head. Aroma and flavour quite similar - of caramel and wood, and quite malty and sweet. Fruity.

Bottled. A chestnut brown coloured beer with no head. A big aroma featuring brown fruits, mostly raisins and bread. Also some rum and raisin booze. Pretty fruity in the mouth too with a bitter edge. Booze and bread. A little odd but OK.
