Cask/gravity at Battersea BF 2011. Auburn-tinged black with a coarse and fast-disappearing beige head. Coffee, treacle and a hint of port on the nose, dry and full bodied with a slight tartness, like a cross between a black bitter and a dark mild.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Leighton (4096) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 14, 2011
Dark brown with a soft, tan foam head. Lightly roasted malts on the nose with some dark fruits. Flavor is nice but really one-dimensional. Has some burnt wood, dark cane sugar, mild roast, light earth. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Finishes with modest roast, some sugary malts, light syrup and leafy bitters. Decent beer.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 BeerCast_Rich (1202) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUL 22, 2010
on cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Thin dispersing head. Aromas of dark malt and a touch of chocolate. Not much else competing with the classic roasty malt flavours. Very smooth mouthfeel. Pretty drinkable stuff. Enlivened by the conversation behind me - three old boys grumbling about another pub where they had been poured a mild like a pint of Guinness - 3/4 first then topped up later after settling ’It’s a moild, not Guinness!!’ [19112009]

Cask at The Brewery Tap. Mahogany with a tan collar. Coffee and ashtray aroma, some struck matches. Good deep espresso roast undermined by hop astringency, and probably cheese. Not balanced.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Battersea Beer Festival, 11 February 2010. Dark red/brown. Pours with a generous, but diminishing, head. Decent condition. Surprisingly modest aroma. Some raisiny fruit. Some light chocolate notes. Mainly sweetish fruit. Somewhere between a best bitter and a light porter in style.
