Hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Black with red flashes and a creamy scum top. No aroma of note. Some nutty roasty notes, mainly on the back of the throat, and an almost neutral feeling in the mouth beforehand. Some light berry, with a tinge of caramel propelling the sweetness. Easily swigged and sugary, but fairly moreish. I must admit I thought this was a Mild, but Derby’s website doesn’t claim it as an example of that style.

Hand pull at Babington Arms (JDW) Derby. Deep black, slight white head, burnt roast with a lick of liquorice, old fruit drops, sweet finish.
