Cask-conditioned at the Derbyshire beer festival, Seven Stars, Bristol 8/12/10. Near black in colour with a hint of red and slight tan head. Chocolate and roast malt character aplenty, but this beer was marred by a very thin body - for a 5.5% ABV beer it offered little for the alcohol content.

Cask Stillage at the Roundhouse, Barrow Hill 16/05/2009 Fruit and some roast aromas. Small beige head. Black strong in alcohol and a little rich on the palate with a crisp and slightly bitter roast finish.

Cask, Derby Winter Fest 09. Near black with a beige foam. Aromas are earthy light roast malts with coffee. Quite smoky. Flavours are coffee and chocolate with citrus and some herbal notes. Hints of salt. Pretty solid.

Cask@Derby Winter Beer Festival, 2009. Plain black beer with a weakly bitter and malty aroma. The flavour is slightly herbal and weakly malty with a bitter finish. Overall a disappointing weak beer that doesn’t taste in accordance with its abv strength.

Cask At Market Porter. * The Derventio website lists this as a new regular beer, and calls it an Oatmeal Stout. No clue what this was, but "I’m game!" and my pint is pulled - murky red-brown with a decent mottled tan head. The aroma was dominated by cocoa - dry, slightly leafy cocoa, with sweet milkiness as it warmed to room temperature. The taste followed - cocoa, creaminess, with some mild earthy herbal bitterness at the end of the pint. This was quite thick-bodied, soft and dry on the palate, with a little light peat attaching to the chocolate malt in the linger. This could easily be a dessert beer - quite unexpected, and I really enjoyed it.
