A splendidly smooth golden ale with hints of cherries and a subtle bitterness.

Cask (gravity) at the Hop Pole Easter beer festival 2009, Aylesbury. On the festival programme as Dervention Pompeii but some other sources have it as Derventio Pompey. As all the beer names tend to have a Roman theme I suppose either would work.Clear gold. Not much head. Fruity and fresh. Straightforward and pleasant. No obvious sign of the cherries alluded to in the commercial description. I presume that was just to indicate a fruity character rather than the actual addition of cherries.

Cask gravity at The Hop Pole, Easter Beer Festival, Aylesbury, Bucks in the company of Loz, Chris O and Ruth 10-04-09 Pours warm gold leaning maye towards a very light amber and with a white bubbly head, like the Vale Brunhelle this looks in spiffing nick. Aroma is a little bit of a let down, I get occasional tinges of steamed vegtables, most strange. Taste is light fruitiness but I get a real dustiness to this and occasional chewy cardboard. This finishes dry with some bitterness in between, its not wonderful by any stretch, but for all of those seemingly negative points it’s actually an ok beer. A4 A5 F6 P2 Ov11 2.8

Pours fairly golden, mild carbonation. Taste is fairly standard, but enjoyable. Light, refreshing and fruty hops, with a moderated bitter dry hop finish. Decent.
