SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Oct 23, 2008 Bottle from Holiday Wine. Pours as a clear golden color that is easily visible through and an average amount of sediment that is stuck and thick in place. Aroma has a pleasant serving of coriander as well as orange peel or orange blossom water. The flavor is sort of bland and empty with no highlights other than a presence of wheat, orange peel shavings and dash of coriander. ChazMania (408), Pasadena, California, USA Oct 23, 2008 Bomber. Very clear yellow pour, small head that faded quickly. The first sip was tart but then became sweeter as I drink. A good amount of Belgian bannana, clove and yeast flavors. A decent beer and easy to drink on this ridiculously hot late October day. (i think it’s 93 here). kmweaver (2398), Sebastopol, California, USA Oct 22, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours a clear, bright golden color; effervescent; creamy white head with good retention and fine-bubbled lacing. Dry nose showing white pepper and some light lemon zest; a bit reserved overall. Medium mouthfeel: basic yeastiness, bananas, and white pepper, with a very soft spice profile: some coriander, along with the pepper; a bit watery along the edges, or approaching wateriness; solidly drinkable if lacking some depth overall. Certainly not bad. Medium finish: dry pepper, light breadiness, and some basic bananas and lemon zest. Glouglouburp (2782), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 21, 2008 In short: A below average Wit/Hefe brew. Dry and spicy, not even refreshing
How: Bottle from Hophead84. Thanks Shane. Consumed fresh immediately upon reception.
The look: Clear dark yellow body topped by a short-lived white head
In long: Nose of curacao, dried fruits peels, coriander and a lot of ripe bananas. Flavour profile is a lot more reminiscent of german Hefe-Weizen than Belgian Witbier (that it’s supposed to be). Flavour gives the impression of lots of hay, dried bananas, green bananas, dried pineapples, coriander, other mouth drying spices. I like dry beers a lot but his one had a dusty yeast(?) dryness that just didn’t work with this type of beer. Spicy notes were a bit too much too. Extra dry grass. Body is fluffy in a synthetic foam type of way. Received as a bonus in a trade where Hophead84 sent me an amazing BA Speedway and a equally amazing Pliny The Elder this bottle is like a “free gas tank fill with the purchase of your next Mercedes” bonus. tarheels86 (705), Washington DC, USA Oct 19, 2008 Bought this in Sisters, OR a few miles from the brewery. Not bad at all. A good try at the witbier style. Pours a light neon yellow with a small head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma of cloves and lemon. Taste has some hints of coriander, cloves, nutmeg, and some orange peel. Very refreshing and enjoyable but not fantastic. However, how can this be compared to Blue Moon and be ranked so much lower? This is truer to the style and simply better. bradlyc77 (226), Sebastopol, California, USA Oct 17, 2008 Bomber. I agree with the "Good not great" comment. Golden color, not very tangy, nice clove aftertaste. Grains of paradise are a nice touch. IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Oct 16, 2008 Bomber from GM Liquors; Nose of wheaty yeast, some banana, corriander, and some citrus; urine yellow with a medium pale yellow head; flavor has some banana, pepperiness, corriander and ginger, and an orange note. Good not great! killjoy966 (215), Washington, USA Oct 13, 2008 I can’t believe people equate Blue Moon with a beer like this. A refreshing summer wit that tastes a little spicy in the middle. A nice clean finish.
