Flavour of caramel, sweet malt, dark fruits and light citrus. Slightly bitter finish. In the ESB style, light, easy to drink.

On tap, poured into a plastic cup at Deschutes Street Pub Chicago. The aroma is a malty, fig, molasses, raisin, and pie crust combination with a mild roasted nut note late. Itís an effervescent, hazy caramel brown with a tan, dense sudsy head that retains a moderate messy surface and a dense, but runny lace. The taste is a medium bittersweet that balances well at first, but turns more bitter heavy by mid cup. The texture is a thicker oiliness with a fuzzy carbonation and a medium light body. The flavor profile, at first, strikes the palate as caramel apple with a dark chocolate, but oranges, molasses, and pie crust emerge next with nuts coming through late. The finish is a dark raisin and woody spice blend with molasses late. Itís dry with a mellow toffee and pie crust aftertaste with a warm combination of molasses, nuts, and a bitter wood spice. Thereís also a hint of waxiness, and a roasty nutty bitter aftertaste late, but all very mild.

[2/27/15] Draught at Deschutes Brewery & Public House in Portland. Amber-colored. Aroma of butter, caramel and toffee. Sweetish flavor, buttery, with caramel, toffee, light fruitiness and a bitterish finish. Medium-bodied.

This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a hazy burnt orange to brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing here and there and ends up sliding for the most part. The smell had a decent amount of sweet malts, slight nuts over top of the hops. The taste was mainly the same with a slight quick malty aftertaste leading to a dry sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Overall, I would say that this was a decent ESB I could have again. Iíd like to have again and wouldnít mind having with some fish ní chips.

"bachelor bitter is now the tap, and bacheloe esb is the bottle, so this review is for tap only...a little lighter and smoother than in the bottle, so a noch up there, but it loses a touch of itís complexity."

Strong caramel/crystal malt lends a sweetness that overpowers the English hops a bit too much. Other than that itís a pretty solid take on the style. Iíd love to try a version with the abv dialed down to a more style appropriate level.

On tap at their Downtown Portland location - Pours copper / orange with an off-white head. The aroma has bready English malt and light earth - very clean. It has a medium smooth body thatís almost creamy and has soft carbonation. The flavor has toastiness, nuts, bread, must and earthy English yeast. The finish has phenolic spice and crackers. Good bitter.

When in Rome...er....Bend, Oregon, get rad with the locals. The local champ and for good reason, this capped off a goal of trying 200 beers in three months on a limited budget while vacationing there. Glad I did it with this. Hazy hazelnut rust with a small, lacing head. Crisp smell of roast malts and some spruce. Vanilla, chocolate, light hoppage, some citrus. Not too bitter and very creamy and smoove. I dig.
