Draft at brewery: Lightly carbonated and very easy to swallow (good session ale). Sweet malts up front, but only a mild bitterness in the finish. Lack of bitterness really left me hanging.

I just got an MIP with this beer about 30 minutes ago, it was a good beer, but was it really worth it? I guess I'll have to decide that for myself during my alcohol abuse class.

Bottle Slightly hazy, warm copper with a tan head that holds at a solid finger thick and leaves lace aplenty. Well balanced aroma with some subdued fruitiness, bready and faintly caramelly malt, and earthy, citric hops. There’s also a bit of chalky yeast and a slight mineral note. The flavor is relaxed and easy going, with some fruitiness and bread starting things off. Midway, the earthy hops balance things out, along with some yeastiness and minerals. Lengthy finish with a strong malt note and crisp dryness. Medium body with a dry mouthfeel that adds to it’s highly quaffable nature. Overall, a very solid ESB and my first Deschutes brew. Thanks to Gromit for the bottle.

Bought in the 12 oz brown bottle. Always liked Deschutes product and this didn't let me down. Lovelly appearance to this beer..nice finger head creamy white..beautiful copper colouration to the beer. Great aroma nice mix of malt and EKC hops ( gives a much different scent profile than the Cascade hops) Taste nice and bitter hoppiness, as is expected for this type of beer i taste some green apple in here too..nice. Very smooth on the mouth withy of course the hops hanging in there until the bitter end :). Very drinkable..good example of and Extra Special Bitter..will buy again.

Red color with an average sized white head. Aroma is light hoppiness. Taste is malty with some bitterness coming through after the swallow. Full body with lots (almost too much) carbonation. Dry finish.

Very impressed with this one, smells like oranges, just the right amount of bitterness. Easy to drink and delicious...

Deschutes, how I love thee... Pours a cloudy amber with a great head and beautiful lace. Smells of wonderful EKG hops. The taste is very understated. EKG hops, sure. The malt is nice and fruity. I don't understand why good beers of this style aren't more popular; I like it far better than American hefs. Mouthfeel is very full. It has a nice mineraly feel to it like a true bitter should. Drinkability is very high. The taste, as I said, is subtle and the alcohol content is low enough that I could easily spend an evening drinking these. Another awesome offering by Deschutes.

Pours copper with small head. Sweet malt aromas, complimented with some hops. Nice hop flavors with a good bitter finish.
