Orange-amber with a small head. Aroma is surprisingly hoppy, balanced nicely with a good malty backbone. Flavour of grapefruity hops, notes of tea, and sweet malt. To hoppy for a true ESB, but still excellent. HogTownHarry (3999), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 17, 2006 Bottle (12oz). Shared with biegaman, blankboy and GregClow, blankboy’s bottle. Clear amber with an average white head. Sweet malt aroma, tea, herbal hops, grainy. Taste- same, hoppy, tea, light malt, bitter finish. Solid body, very astringent, long linger, decent carbonation - excellent US take on an ESB - a little hoppy, but nice. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 12, 2006 12 oz bottle via Liquid Solutions. Pours a semi hazy amber with a small head. Mild aroma with notes of caramel, toffee, and some English hops. Tastes like it smells with some added orange hoppiness in the finish/aftertaste. I would say this is a northwest version of an Engish ESB....tastey and refreshing. Another good beer from Deschutes. lukin013 (211), Columbia, Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 25, 2006 Pours a hazy orange with frothy light tan head. Aroma of citrus and herbal hops. A little thin and watery on the palate. Flavor is of lightly citrus hops that diminishes quickly with surprisingly little aftertaste. yalnikim (779), Wellington, New Zealand
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 20, 2006 Tasted 18/09/2006. 12oz bottle from BrewNZ. Amber with a light tan head that diminishes, holds, and laces in a soapy fashion. Toffee malt and grassy hops on the nose at first, then some orange and vodka notes - almost screwdriver-like. Dry toffee malt up front, with a big bitter middle that lets out grassy and orange hop flavour. Sea-water too. Toffee notes and fruity hops linger on the palate. Medium weight and carbonation. A touch more sweetness please, then I’d drink this all afternoon. Not far off Croucher Pale Ale, for NZers wanting a similar beer. unclemattie (2410), Georgia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 31, 2006 I sampled this bottle at King Estate Winery. Amber color, decent head. It reminds me of Bitters I’ve had in London. It kinda basic and medium bodied. jerc (3888), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 16, 2006 Bottle courtesy of Secret Santa. Amber body, nice frothy beige head. Grainy malt aroma, notes of celery in aroma carry over to flavour, grainy, light bitterness and caramel malt. Has some pleasant notes, but lacks overall coherence to my mind. Average palate. Worth trying but didn’t blow my socks off. dwedin (238), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 7, 2006 Clear brown with fat white cap. Pine, bread, musty aromas. Fresh biscuits and not overly strong but sharp bitterness flavors. Bitterness lingers a little extra.
