We took our Cinder Cone Red recipe and doubled it up; double the malt, hops and alcohol. This beer provides a strong citral hop punch the rides on a blanket of smooth caramel malt flavor. To add to this beers nobility we then aged it on Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon wooden cask. Go big or go home! IBUís: 75

On cask at Deschutes Public House, referred to as Little Big Red. Deep amber, came out super foamy from the cask. Hoppy citrus aroma. Mellow caramel taste, with slight hints of citrus hops. Very smooth, with a lingering sweetness.

Poured from a waxed bottle. Pours copper-red with an off-white head. Aroma is like a sour gueze. Flavour is grape skin, sour mash, Cabernet, cinnamon, and yeast. High alcohol. This is unique. A red ale that is reminiscent of a lambic.

22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy ruby red with a small off-white head. Aroma is pretty hot, with lots of candied sugar and bready caramel malts. Flavour brings out light oxidation notes, bready malt, and very light vinous notes. Very little barrel to this and not much complexity. Leaves something to be desired. A miss from Deschutes.

Bottle at the brewpub in Portland. Great beer. Pours a reddish copper color with a medium white head. A big almost funky wine nose, berries and sweet oak. The flavor is sweet caramel, fruity hops, massive dry earthy wine, vinous, a bit of funky grape filling in. Very flavorful and soft. Excellent.

22oz, waxed bottle. Poured a cloudy amber color with an off white head. Citrus, fruity, caramel, wood, and a trace of the Cab. I would say the barrel aging on the subtler side.

"Donít know where to start with this one. Iíve alway been a fan of Cinder Cone, and this is a double version of that aged in multiple wine barrels and blended back together. While bearing little resemblence to the base beer, you can pick out the same malts...there are just more of them. Toast and berries on the nose. Risiculously smooth and no alchohol showing. Deep complex flavor of oak, berries, toasted and carmel malts, berries and dark fruits, and a veeeery light sweet/tart thing going on. Really refined and enjoyable. Worth every penny, though this is the most expensive Deschutes beer Iíve ever seen."

Sweet Carmel candy taste. Massive beer. Cabernet barrels make sense after trying it. 22oz bottle share. Draft pour as part of a flight at Deschutes brewery in Portland.

Deep amber with a thin off white head. Nose is big rich malts, wood, light wine, and caramel. Chewy palate, bold grape notes, caramel, chewy smooth finish.

22. Thanks, J! Pours a clear medium amber with light tan head. Big toasty caramel malty nose with soft citric notes. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Toasty caramel mid palate, not a lot of dimension or presence to the flavor. Soft finish.

Slightly reddish brown with a good sized pale head. Aroma is citrus, nettle leaves, hint of caramel & toffee. Medium bodied, well balanced palate of hop and mild maltiness. Taste is toffee, candied orange peel, ruby grapefruit.
