For my money I’ll take the obsidian stout over this. Medium body with a fair maltiness and a crisp hop after-taste.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2006 On tap GABF ’02: Huge Coffee/Chocolate explosion. Only a slight bit watery. It’s good to find that one of the best Porters at GABF ’02 is rated so highly on this site, I never heard of it before. I feel in good company.

A realy nice balanced porter. Chocolatey but not overly sweet, because, as many other raters have mentioned, it has a well hopped finish. The right moutfeel, the right effervesence...quite good.

Dark, dark brown/ruby. appears black but the light doesnt lie. Not much head, just swirls of foam trying to stay alive. Nose of moderate roast, bit of chocolate, bit of coffee. Fairly rich, almost creamy with nice sweet malt flavors, mildly bitter chocolate, very clean taste with a hint of metal? Decent hopping at the end to offset the sweetness. Good porter. Thanks herbjones.

Chocolatey-toffee aroma. Very dark reddish brown color, almost black, with a rapidly diminishing head. Very laid-back profile. Roasty, very malty and slightly caramel-sweet flavor, but it possesses such a mellow character. Almost subtle. Great flavor development, moving from roasty and dry to hoppy and then quickly to a light, honeyish sweetness. Medium bodied with relatively low effervescence, very easy to quaff. Yes, good. Thank you herbjones.

Big coffee nose. Roasted flavors just roll across the tongue. Very good porter.
