2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
From the bottle.
Pours dark with a long-lived light brown head. Some chocolate and mild vinous notes on the nose, along with a sort of metallic off-aroma. The flavor disappoints: slightly burnt (and watery) gas-station coffee vie with dish-soapy hops that come on unnaturally strong for the style; hints of hershey’s syrup mingle through with hints of cheap sweet red wine. The whole thing is amped up by a strongly overcarbonated fizz, leaving one with something which is neither recognizable as a proper porter nor enjoyable to drink.
I realize that I am way off the left-hand tail of the ratings distribution on this one, but I simply cannot understand the high scores that this beer gets. For me, it’s yet another disappointment from Deschutes’ regular line -- all the more disappointing given that they’ve proven with their Bond Street series that they are capable of far better.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours deep mahogany with a well-proportioned tan head. The aroma isn’t all that strong, but is roasty with some chocolate and caramel notes. The flavor is roasty as well, and is very well balanced by some semi-sweet chocolate and faint earthy hops. The finish reminds me of fresh French-pressed coffee and leaves kind of a charred oak aftertaste. This is pretty tasty.

On tap at Freakin Frog. Super dark brown with a frothy head. Malty with some chocolate. A nice porter.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
From Draft. Pours a dark brown root beery color with a nice serving of creamy cappucino froth. Light aromas of vanilla, milky chocolate, and mild roast coffee are pleasantly balanced. Slightly thin body is a touch watery, but has a pleasing milky texture. The flavors are quite enjoyable, albeit predictable. Semi-sweet toasted oatmeal, milk chocolate, and early morning gas station coffee sweetened with a touch of vanilla. Not bad, and a very good everyday drinking beer to pair with a meal.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deeply roasted caramel malt with toffee, nuts, chocolate, and molasses. This has an easy-drinking feel to it, perhaps a bit water-down in texture, but still quite nicely done.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours to an opaque black, with a thick tan head, and medium lacing throughout drink. Aroma of nuts, chocaolate and toffee. Taste at early glass mostly of chocolate and malt, but alcohol starts slipping into the taste at mid-bottle. Nice, smooth finish. Very good porter.

I bought a six pack of this while on a visit to California. I wish it could be bought in Tennessee. Poured very nicely and had a great taste to it. When I visit again, will definately make another purchase.

This stuff is great! Dark and smooth,it has a nice roasty chocolatey taste to it. Slighty thin, but the taste more than makes up for it.

Had this in a bottle at PF Changs in Phoenix. Nice, rich malts which were bold but not as complex as I might have thought given my expecations. Enjoyable and easy-drinking for a Porter.
