Bottled. Pours dark black with reddish highlights. Thin off white head. Aroma is sweet and roasty with hints of alcohol. Great burnt roast malt flavor, very clean and fresh tasting. I really enjoyed it because I knew that I was not drinking a stout or a brown ale, I was drinking porter. Very Nice.

Bottle. Dark beer with a big beige head. Huge roasty aroma with some coffee. Peaty flavor with some roasted malts. Some smoothness to it, but just a hint of acidity at the end (not really from any bitterness). Bit thin and easy drinking.

Ruby, dark ruby.
I smell burnt timber, dried fruits cooking on a wood-fired stovetop, and cast iron.
Taste smoked peat; cast iron skillet lickin’
good; burnt biscuits over a fire; some old staw. Nice porter brings to mind an image of an old-fashioned road side tavern filled with porters unloading horses, eating bad tavern food, and drinking decent beer. Lots of quaffable qualities to this beer.

Bottled, Stockholm Beer Festival.
Almost black in colour. Thin example of a porter. Decent malty but no trace of chocolate. But there is a medium bitterness.

Deschutes just entered Colorado and so did Black Butte Porter but my sample was purchased in California.
Dark brown. Light tan head. Nice lace.
The smell is typical. Dry bitter chocolate, coffee, minimal hops and toasted grains.
I like it. Very malty with roasted grains, coffee, smokiness, molasses, slightly sweet, moderately bitter, very balanced. A solid porter.

Pours dark brown, almost black, with a light tan head that leaves a bit of lacing on the glass. Chocolate and faint floral hops are in the aroma and follow through in the taste. Taste is mildly roasty chocolate with a nice balance, light hopped bitter finish, and light body. Mouthfeel was a bit thin in my opinion, but the porter leaves a nice coffee finish behind afterward.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep, dark brown color, showing crimson edges, with an active, fizzy tan head, though quick to settle.
Aroma: smooth, creamy, with a whiff of bitter hops.
Taste: nice, gritty texture, but smooth thereafter. Little hop presence on the palate, but full malt, full body, and rich in cocoa, coffee flavor. Very sweet and fruity in the end, with ultimately excellent balance, and thoroughly accomplished drinkability.
Overall, an excellent, everyday, workhorse porter, with no overboard flavors, just smooth, tasty, thirst-quenching and solid. One I’ve enjoyed before and would happily employ again as a session ale, if I could.

Almost black. Malty aroma with fruity tones of pach. Flavor is malky and malty. Has a salty finish but I think this one is a little too thin.

I had this at the Great Arizona Beer Festival in Phoenix. Pretty decent malty flavor but nothing special.
