With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

On tap at an Applebee’s in the Portland, Oregon area. Rather thin for a porter, but I am not complaining. Went well with wings. Has a rostiness and bittersweet chocolate after-taste.

A sweetish brew with surprisingly thin body. There were some light toffee notes and a hint of coffee. It leaves you with a mellow, short aftertaste with slightly hoppy burps..

Nice dark brown with some red pour with a thin off white head. The aroma was full with nice chocolate and malt feel and a solid coffee in the backround.Started slightly bitter but really warmed up with chocolate and coffee. Seemed to have a little smoke to it as well and finished full. Overall a good porter but not quite life changing.

12oz. bottle. Nearly opaque brown-red. Medium sized tan head. Sweet chocolate, vanilla, a mild roastiness, and caramel malt in the aroma. Roasty coffee nose, melds into bittersweet chocolate and rich caramel flavors. Tinges of milk chocolate sweetness and a slight astringency in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium, rather smooth and slightly dry.

12oz. bottle. Dark brown color with red highlights and a small tan head. Mild roasted chocolate malt aroma with some cola notes as well. Flavor of the roasted malts was much stronger than the aroma, but still on the light side. Lightly bitter on the finish with a fairly aggressive carbonation.

Sweet toasted malt mix with chocoate and coffe aroma. Creamy tan head that goes fairly quick with good lacing. Slightly sweet with light bittering. Sweet in the beginning and the end. Medium to full body with a creamy texture and soft carbonation in the mouth. I would have rated this beer a little higher if it had a little more bittering in the end. Very, very good beer. thanks Jay
