An excellent beer. Almost reminds me of a brown ale but definatley a porter after you;ve had a few sips. Very sweet tasting with an amazingly distinct aftertaste. I love this beer, an Oregonian classic.

had during a trip to alaska. nice chocolate, would have enjoyed more depth and carbonation. still ranks up there for the porters.

An easy to find porter that has a pretty good flavor. Pours a dark brown like any other porter. Tastes of chocolate and some hops with a smoky roastedflavor. Slight fruit flavors too. The flavors werenít that strong though, but for its availibilty it is good.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured with a typical brown porter color and a decent initial head. Lacing was decent. The aroma was of nice chocolate, light roasted malts. The flavor was of sweet chocolate (but very nice, far from cloying) and cherries. This one really hit the spot on a cool evening in Phoenix. Mouthfeel was light-medium for the style.

A perfect Porter! Some brewers put too much into their Porters and they tend to morph into a Stout, but NOT this one. Great chocolate, and Carmel flavors are easy to detect but in just the right strength for a Porter. Long lasting head and long lasting flavor.

12oz bottle: aroma more of american hybrid hops than malt really, but still malty and spicy. More so than any other porter Iíve had. Good flavor but not really typical of most other porters Iíve had, probably from the hops. Very easy to drink for a darker beer, and still refreshing at that. Definitely worth trying. Iíve got to move to Oregon ;)

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
From the bottle.
Pours dark with a long-lived light brown head. Some chocolate and mild vinous notes on the nose, along with a sort of metallic off-aroma. The flavor disappoints: slightly burnt (and watery) gas-station coffee vie with dish-soapy hops that come on unnaturally strong for the style; hints of hersheyís syrup mingle through with hints of cheap sweet red wine. The whole thing is amped up by a strongly overcarbonated fizz, leaving one with something which is neither recognizable as a proper porter nor enjoyable to drink.
I realize that I am way off the left-hand tail of the ratings distribution on this one, but I simply cannot understand the high scores that this beer gets. For me, itís yet another disappointment from Deschutesí regular line -- all the more disappointing given that theyíve proven with their Bond Street series that they are capable of far better.

Bottle. Pours deep mahogany with a well-proportioned tan head. The aroma isnít all that strong, but is roasty with some chocolate and caramel notes. The flavor is roasty as well, and is very well balanced by some semi-sweet chocolate and faint earthy hops. The finish reminds me of fresh French-pressed coffee and leaves kind of a charred oak aftertaste. This is pretty tasty.

On tap at Freakin Frog. Super dark brown with a frothy head. Malty with some chocolate. A nice porter.

From Draft. Pours a dark brown root beery color with a nice serving of creamy cappucino froth. Light aromas of vanilla, milky chocolate, and mild roast coffee are pleasantly balanced. Slightly thin body is a touch watery, but has a pleasing milky texture. The flavors are quite enjoyable, albeit predictable. Semi-sweet toasted oatmeal, milk chocolate, and early morning gas station coffee sweetened with a touch of vanilla. Not bad, and a very good everyday drinking beer to pair with a meal.
