COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. Itís prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Nice dark body. Very smooth, slightly thick. Good roasted malt flavor. Overall a well balanced beer. I have had this porter before in both bottle and on tap and they were really good. However, tonightís bottle just didnít seem to be as good as the others.

Chocolate, coffee, toasted dark bread malt (H); Smoke, toffee aromas. Somewhat vinious nose. Deep brown-black body. Heavily sweet, lightly sour flavor becomes a moderately sweet, lightly sour finish. Medium body, watery/oily texture, soft carbonation. The bottom line is: I donít normally like porters, butte this one was tasty.

Pour is a dark black color. Foamy tan head. Smells of dried bananas. Tastes of chocolate and roasts. Not my favorite porter but nice.

Bottle - Nice and dark with a tan head; good lacing. Roasted barley aroma and flavor. Coffee not too overdone with some chocolate. Really nice balance. A good porter ... really enjoyed it.

This is a great porter, bottle or glass. Really nice on a fresh tap. Dusty tan/rock head, nice balance roast malt aroma... no coffee over tones, smooth on tongue. Enjoy. Cheers

Good roasted aroma. Flavor of roasted coffee, with a touch of smokiness. A nicely balanced, medium bodied porter.

Pours almost opaque black with frothy tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. Nice body but could be creamier. Flavor had notes of coffee and chocolate with some anise. Commendable porter for sipping alone.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2005 Sweet, chocolaty, burnt, toasted aroma; rich, creamy smooth, chocolaty, bitter/malty flavor thatís not too sweet, not too bitter: stellar balance; I love this porter and think itís one of the best.
