Sweet toasted malt mix with chocoate and coffe aroma. Creamy tan head that goes fairly quick with good lacing. Slightly sweet with light bittering. Sweet in the beginning and the end. Medium to full body with a creamy texture and soft carbonation in the mouth. I would have rated this beer a little higher if it had a little more bittering in the end. tap. Black with hints of maple coloring. Thin frothy head with tiny bubbles. Hoppy, floral scent iwth some chocolate and roasted nuts. Very interesting aroma. Burnt caramel and malts on the palate with hints of chocolate. Delicious.

Fine fine beer that lacks any real distinction. Has all the requisite roasted malt flavors though in small quantities, a decent aroma, and a fairly thin mouthfeel. Not bad at all--fairly light and easy going.

Draught. Dark, dark brown color with thin tan head. Almond, chocolate nose with a hint of amaretto. Roasty chocolate and coffee flavors with a roasty, somewhat smoky finish.

12 oz bottle, via Indiana_Red. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a small and quickly fleeting head. Aroma of light roast and coffee with lighter notes of chocolate malt, yeast, and chalk. Grainy malt unfortunately overpowers the roasty and coffee aspects hinted at by the aroma. Finish is dry and yeasty with minimal bitterness. Very thin and watery mouthfeel with too much carbonation yielding a distracting fizziness. A below average Porter. This is weak in flavor and lacks any semblance of body. Too much crystal malt flavor drowning out the chocolate and roast flavor that should be center-stage.

Chocolately aroma with coffee and toffee. Dark brown, but amber rather than opaque. Large bubbled, quickly disappearing head. Very light, more like a brown ale. Well balanced. feels crisp in the mouth, finishing with subtle hops flavor.

This is a good porter. Very smooth from start to finish. Very dark pour, with a tan head. Great Beer to look at, and taste. Great Chocolate and malt flavor. Try this one if you haven’t already.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2007 Pours dark brown w/ a medium sized, semi creamy froth. Decent head retention revealing a full silky canopy and a stcky ring. Aromas of cocoa and dark malts. Medium nectar w/ mellow residual effers. First impression is pretty basic. It has a malty backbone that supports a rather mellow flavor profile. This is a lighter style Porter with exceptional ballance. A good introductory Porter for those just discovering the style. Flavors are mellow, slightly sweet, and show the style in a very enjoyable way. The finish kinda lingers w/ a slight souring.

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2007 Black Butte Porter pours to a beautiful deep brown to ebony color with a thick, creamy tan head, and a moderate to soft amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is just so inviting with big aromas of dark chocolate, sweet malt, coffee, roast, and citric/spicy aromas that fight for your attention. The palate on this beer is robust on the tongue, but very polished, with lots of big dark chocolate and coffee flavors, paired with light touches of estery black currant. Black Butte Porter finishes with more chocolate, coffee, a touch of fruit, and roasty flavors, then ends with a nice burst of citric/spicy hop bitterness and a touch more chocolate and roast, rounding this beer out to perfection.
This beer is one of the most delicious porters you will ever taste, and it just screams to be matched with hearty dishes such as roasted lamb, or a grilled NY strip steak. It also cry out for a rich chocolate desert, or a thick and creamy slab of NY style cheese cake. For a beer with so much flavor, one would think it would be a bit too much for a session, but like Guinness Stout, this beer is very drinkable. Sampled this one on draught at the brewery in Bend, OR in October of 2007, and it was so fresh, flavorful, and delicious. An amazingly good pint of porter on draught at source.

A good porter. Nice creamy head. Bark but clear consistancy. At 5.2% I would like them to crank up the ABV a bit. This one is definitely worth a try.
