COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Notes of rich chocolate and coffee, a luscious creaminess and a roasted finish.Listed on the bottle, I would agree, looking for a bit more thickness, but would drink again for sure!

Black with light brown head. Red fruit, toasted malt and vanilla. Floral hops, chocolate and a bit cherry. A divine smooth and creamy palate. A rare 5 in that for me. A crisp after taste of dark chocolate.

Roasty aroma, lasting head. Super smooth mouthfeel with roasty, chocolate notes balanced by mild hop finish.

Delicate, slightly smoky aroma, with chocolate and fruit notes. Taste is sweet & sour chocolate, with a bit of fruit and roasted nuts. Strangely enough, and in contrast with other reviewers, I get no coffee here. Reminds me most of something very specific - old-school chocolate sodas like my mom used to get at the local ice cream stand 30+ years ago, with the thin feel and light carbonation to match and the complimentary dollop of vanilla custard. Not as roasty, smoky, or coffee-infused as I expected, but delicious in its own right.

Dark red, clear with nice yellow creamy foam. Sour aroma with vanilla, sherry and chocolate. Sweet, vanilla, with strong burned sugar and bonbon aftertaste. High in carbon.

Pours clear dark brown with low tan head. Aroma of chocolate and light coffee, hints of roasted malt but very smooth. Taste is mellow milk chocolate up front followed by a light roasty finish. Light, smooth body with average carbonation.

Porter Blind Tasting #4. Similar to a few others I get a bit of a fruity-tutti, banana character, which is amiss of porter but seems to be common as I go through this blind tasting. A mild roast character, a mild hop character. Tasted a lot like #1 but slightly better. A very safe porter.

2016.02.13-Deschutes Black Butte Porter-on tap at Tuscarora Mill. Meh. Ok, a bit thin, more roasts than I'd expect. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
