COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

A-Rich roasted notes. carmel, nutty, and chocolate make a intense nose. A-Dark, deep, chesnut brown with a red tint. Moderate opaque appearance. Vanila/off white head. T-Matches what I smell and see with high expectations. Roasty malts have a wounderful nutty taste with slight smokiness. P-Rich and Smooth mouthfeel O-outstanding porter representation and specs for style. Richness in every step of the experience.

Pours a deep and dark red, almost brown, with a khaki head.Lots of toasted malt on the nose, caramel, breadiness, toffee, milk chocolate and maybe some vanilla. That toasted malt is big in the taste as well, there’s a little hoppiness, milk chocolate, vanilla, toffee, and roasted coffee beans. Medium bodied, velvet smooth. Delicious.

Bottle bought from a small store near Lake Tahoe.. A good solid porter, toasted flavour and very drinkable from the bottle. Goes great with BBQ food.

Sample at brewfest. Pours dark, nice chocolate and roasted malts on the nose and tongue. Solid beer, drinkable for a porter.

Poured from bottle into pint glass. Pours deep brown/black with reddish tint and no cloudiness. Head is off-white and large; very long lasting with excellent lacing. Nice balanced smell - moderate toasted malt and moderate hoppiness with light yeastiness. Initial flavor is of sweet chocolate/cocoa with a slight bitter finish. Medium-bodied with nice creamy texture and soft carbonation.

Bomber from my sister on her trip to Oregon. Pours dark brown with a small head that fades normally, leaves some lacing. Aroma is light roast, cocoa, and a hint of coffee beans. Decent taste, roasty and chocolaty. Creamy finish with a touch of spice and bitterness. Medium body. Solid porter.

A decent porter, pours a nice brown-black with a thick tan head. Smells great, coffee and nutty. Taste is not quite as good, very chocolaty and coffee. Finishes slightly hoppy. Bad in the bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours very dark with a lasting tan head. Quite a roasty aroma with some coffee. Coffee again in the flavour, quite thin, a lot of roast and mild bitterness in the finish. Good, somewhat robust, but nowhere near the Obsidian Stout.

Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. Rich dark chocolate, roasty malts and coffee in the aroma. Smooth and creamy. Taste of dark chocolate and cocoa and finishes with a little bit of roasted coffee. A very good porter.
